I am interested in making it so that the Wii U Gamepad will see my iMac as a Wii U, so that I could use it as an external touch screen / input device.

I know that the Gamepad <-> Wii U communication takes place over Bluetooth. I assume there must be some way that I could eavesdrop on the communications so that I could reverse engineer the protocols used.

So my question is... what would I use to do the eavesdropping?

Gamepad uses Wifi, not Bluetooth. You can hook up a Wiimote or Wii U Pro controller easily in OS X with wJoy, but the Gamepad would take quite a bit more work.

Might be an easier way to use it as a touch device without video, might try that myself sometime:

Thanks so much for this!

Other than my iPhone 6+ (and the Wii U/Gamepad, of course), I don't think I have any devices that can use Wifi 5 GHz...
