According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, an independent study found that 40% of sales in Apple's retail stores are to switchers that were swayed by Apple's switch ads. The ad campaign was thought up by an outside marketing corporation, not Apple's own marketing department.

Anyone else find this interesting? I thought Apple came up with the ads. I was surprised to learn they didn't. Glad to see they are working.

I'm not surprised at all. They didn't think up think different either, or 1984. both were done by chiat/day. I don't know who does the switch ads though.

Certainly good news if accurate though. Hopefully this will show up on apple's earnings reports inbthe form of increased revenue and units sold soon.

They need to start airing that Will Ferrell ad more.. both of them are really funny. I think that is definately in their interest to have funnier ads out. What percentage of the public sees Yo-Yo Ma and says... 'i know him!'

Will Ferrell selling macs... who'd have thought it.

i dont concider myself a 'switcher', but apple IS opening alot of eyes with their products now days, i know about 5 ppl in one of my classes who are thinking of buying an ibook. The introduction of OSX.2 and the iPod/G4 iMac was like a dream, they all are VERY sweet to use, i even know a guy who owns only a pc, and he bought an ipod, now he wants to get a powermac/imac since he loves the quality of the ipod :)

while good, the ads are too little, too late

apple could have followed up on their 98-99 momentum, but like they always do historically, they dropped the ball

but will ferrel is great for the ad:p
