what is it and which computer can i use to make one? i have an imac and an old dell. what tools/things would i need? what are the benefits? sorry about the dumb question.😀

A media server is anything that can distribute media files to one or more destinations. For instance, in our home our media server is our hackintosh (1 tb hard drive) that can concurrently send media to our Mac Mini home theater (projector-based) by ethernet, Apple TV by AEBSn and one laptop by AEBSn. Usually we distribute using iTunes, but the Mini seeks the media drive through Plex.

Easiest thing would be to use iTunes, provided you're wanting to send it to your Mac or to an Apple TV. Of course, you need ethernet or 802.11g or 802.11n for it to work.
