I was so looking forward to a new ghall thread. The title had me so excited.
 
Mine was tucked under the menu bar the other day. I force quit Spotlight in Activity Monitor and all has been well since.
 
Oooooor toss the plist file

Home folder > Library > Preferences > com.apple.spotlight.plist drag that file to the desktop and see if it fixes it.
 
Your Mac knows what you've been doing online with that girl. This will not be the last anomaly you will see.

Same for me once....and same result, I force quit of Spotlight in Activity Monitor solved the problem. I think a killall Spotlight would have worked as well....for the terminal inclined.

I think it's a Leopard bug, because I had the same thing happen to the Date/ Time drop-down from the Menu Bar. So it's not Spotlight specific, but related to Menu items. A restart restored it.
