After updating to iOS 11, the Photos App no longer has the locations above the individual Moments. It used to have the date along with the locations of the pics in each Moment. Example: July 4 Bend, OR and Deschutes National Forrest. You could just touch on the location name and it would pop open a full screen map of all the photos in that Moment. Now you have to pic an individual photo in the Moment, swipe up to see where it is on a tiny map, then click the little map to make it full screen, but the map has no label of a specific location. There is ZERO information about the map location. If I didn't already know where it was it would be a guessing game as you keep zooming out to finally get a bearing on where the pic was taken.
Also, it only shows where the one pic was taken, not where all pics in the selected Moment where taken populated all over the map. Because.... now you can't do that. Irritating!!
Unless there is something totally obvious that I'm missing but, I don't think so.

Anyone else irked by this? I hope High Sierra doesn't follow suit.

I've noticed it too, but the locations are slowly starting to return. Looks like it may be a bug or something. I've also noticed that this has caused an issue with the order of my collections as well. They're in the right order on my iMac, but not in my iPhone and iPad which are both on iOS 11. Hopefully it'll sort itself out. But I agree - really annoying.

Mine is still working as expected. I see "Portland - Southwest Hills Sept 2 - US26-E", and I can click it to see a map of where it was taken, and all photos taken in that area.

Yep. Same (minus the fact that my photos aren't from Portland). Maybe their photos are still being re-indexed? Who knows.

On a different note: The one thing I do hate about iOS 11's photos is the inability to choose which faces to add to the Faces album. Before (iOS 10) I could go through and manually choose which ones to add/merge

I'm wondering that too about the indexing - some of my moments have locations, and others don't. These moments are not the same ones on the iPad (Pro 2017) and iPhone 6S. I also have over 27000 photos and 1700 videos. It could just be taking its time to get through them all.

Last night, none of the moments had any locations. This morning, more of them do, although the majority have nothing.
[doublepost=1505919562][/doublepost]Just to update, more and more of the locations are returning. Looks like it's just taking some time. Hopefully the order of the collections will sort out as well.

I’m having this same problem too. I even restored twice from backup last night thinking it would help (it didn’t). It’s annoying because all the pics are showing in the places folder, just no locations in the moments view

I'm seeing this too. Hopefully it resolves on its own. I also noticed the People/Faces album is taking a while to sync between my iPhone and iPad.

Thanks guys for letting me know I'm not alone on this. I was kinda wondering if the fact that all the photos are are being converted to the new HEIC format that might have something to do with it, as my locations are now starting to show up sporadically. Feels like things are maybe getting back to normal. Overall, I like the feel of iOS 11. The App Store....not so much. Way too big and requires lots scrolling around. Oh well...

iCloud Photo library is not going to convert old photos to the new formats as I understand it. The new formats are only for photos taken going forward with devices that can create the new formats (anything with a post-iPhone 7 camera).

I think it's something that's going to get fixed because not everyone is seeing the issue, so it's probably a bug. As long as I don't lose data, I'm fine with a few minor issues.
