There are people who really just enjoy sitting in line with other people who enjoy Apple products. I've done it once just to do it and won't do it again. I never camped out there. I'm an adult with actual real life crap to deal with, camping on the sidewalk is not my thing.
People are already lined up for the new iPad Air. Dont they know you can do instore pick-up? WTF?!
The line is gone now. So it must have been for the iPhone5s only a month after release.
I figured it was for the 5S. Maybe some lines late tonight but since rumors that supply is very good I would think most would not waste their time.
It could be the experience? I've been to a midnight release for a game and it was fun. Doesn't have to be that they don't have lives. I would do it if I could just to experience it. The Samsung commercials are obviously them being jealous. What company doesn't want that?
What is the "experience" though? The standing in line part? Dont we get to do that at every store we go to and the DMV? Is it discussing the new devices? Maybe that'd be fun...but camping out? I mean..OK... I supose.
No, its not Samsung beingjealous - they are making billions either way.
Lets be honest here - it IS kind of silly, especially when you can simply come into the store that same morning and have one right then and there. It aint like Black Friday lines(which are also hilarious) where there truly is a limited supply of product and you can only get it in store.

I think lining up for stuff is largely a NYC thing. Once I stood in line for 4 hours to eat Toto Ramen. It was really really good though. Whenever I go there I expect to wait for hours on end inline. Sooo sooo good. For the iPad 2 I stood in line for a couple of hours. By the time they actually started selling the iPad 2 the line a 15+ city blocks long. In NYC, if you want the good stuff you will not be able to avoid the lines. What is the "experience" though? The standing in line part? Dont we get to do that at every store we go to and the DMV? there's only one thing more depressing and sad than a line-up at an apple store, and it's this: http://www.eweek.com/mobile/slideshows/surface-tablet-buyers-line-up-at-california-microsoft-store/

Me, I prefer my warm bed. I can wait a few days if need be.
A guy in Berlin camped outside the Applestore last Tuesday...
I wonder if those people were paid to line up...There's only one thing more depressing and sad than a line-up at an Apple Store, and it's this: http://www.eweek.com/mobile/slideshows/surface-tablet-buyers-line-up-at-california-microsoft-store/
Now that is dedication. I am not stanning hard enough.
it's easy to criticize when you don't care about anything enough to sit out in the wind and rain for weeks because you feel that strongly about something.Dedication is one way to describe it...I think it's more stupidity.

I can understand people that camp out for one night, I have done it myself for the iPhone 5S, but three nights?
It's for the money. They can resale the new iPads for 20-35% markup online.

That only works if people can't get them at regular retail price...

It would be cool if it turns out to be that easy. Even though this shouldn't be the frenzy that was iPhone 5s, they may have 2 lines: one for those who made their online purchases and one for the poor souls who got little sleep to come stand in line at o'dark thirty. It'd be funny as anything to order online for in-store pickup during the night then walk past the bleary eyed line standers at 8:10 to pick up your order.
(assuming the claims of launch day in-store pickup are true... which I don't know)
When I'm making a purchase over $500 bucks I tend to obsess over it. I rarely make a purchase that expensive....
