The line is gone now. So it must have been for the iPhone5s only a month after release.

There are people who really just enjoy sitting in line with other people who enjoy Apple products. I've done it once just to do it and won't do it again. I never camped out there. I'm an adult with actual real life crap to deal with, camping on the sidewalk is not my thing.

Why dont you read the post I was responding to before you open up your file cabinet.

I figured it was for the 5S. Maybe some lines late tonight but since rumors that supply is very good I would think most would not waste their time.

It could be the experience? I've been to a midnight release for a game and it was fun. Doesn't have to be that they don't have lives. I would do it if I could just to experience it. The Samsung commercials are obviously them being jealous. What company doesn't want that?

What is the "experience" though? The standing in line part? Dont we get to do that at every store we go to and the DMV? Is it discussing the new devices? Maybe that'd be fun...but camping out? I mean..OK... I supose.

No, its not Samsung beingjealous - they are making billions either way.

Lets be honest here - it IS kind of silly, especially when you can simply come into the store that same morning and have one right then and there. It aint like Black Friday lines(which are also hilarious) where there truly is a limited supply of product and you can only get it in store.

Right - its the literal camping out in squalor to get.... and electronic device that you can also get even after sleeping in a real bed under shelter. But, hey, whatever doodes :D

I think lining up for stuff is largely a NYC thing. Once I stood in line for 4 hours to eat Toto Ramen. It was really really good though. Whenever I go there I expect to wait for hours on end inline. Sooo sooo good. For the iPad 2 I stood in line for a couple of hours. By the time they actually started selling the iPad 2 the line a 15+ city blocks long. In NYC, if you want the good stuff you will not be able to avoid the lines.

You either get it or you don't, but line parties can be quite fun because you are there for a communal reason voluntarily and you get this sort of group anticipation what everyone is waiting for. It's heightened when the item in question is extremely desirable but in short supply (like a new iPhone or a new video game console). But yes, it is silly when there is an ample supply.

iPad Air is going to be easily available tomorrow, why in the world are people waiting for this?

Dedication is one way to describe it...I think it's more stupidity.
it's easy to criticize when you don't care about anything enough to sit out in the wind and rain for weeks because you feel that strongly about something.

Do you think supply will really be that tight where you have to order at midnight or wait in line?

I expect to be able to walk into any store around noon and pick one up. Could be wrong, but I'd like to handle this one before I buy. If sold out then I know I was destined to buy the Mini

I can understand people that camp out for one night, I have done it myself for the iPhone 5S, but three nights?

Fair enough. I plan to go at some point tomorrow after I've set up in store pick-up. it's raining today so things in NYC should get interesting.

You get to hang out with your friends, talk to them about the product, meet new people, and then get the product. I wouldn't camp out, but wait in line for 4 hours wouldn't be too bad. Bring good buds, couple of snacks, maybe a monitor or a game and it's pretty damn nice.

It'd be funny as anything to order online for in-store pickup during the night then walk past the bleary eyed line standers at 8:10 to pick up your order.

(assuming the claims of launch day in-store pickup are true... which I don't know)

It would be cool if it turns out to be that easy. Even though this shouldn't be the frenzy that was iPhone 5s, they may have 2 lines: one for those who made their online purchases and one for the poor souls who got little sleep to come stand in line at o'dark thirty.
