WTF? Update failed must restore

I got an error (didn't tell me what) and said that the update failed and I now must totally restore my phone.

You can't update if you're jailbroken. You need to restore first, then update.

The phone had been jailbroken but I updated it to 5.1.1 this morning with no problem so it wasn't JB when I did the 6 update

I got the same thing. My iPhone is factory unlocked but was jailbroken. Restoring now.

Yeah, it updated to iOS and is restoring my data now. Ugh...it's going to take hours The good news is my iPad seems to be updating just fine...almost done.
