The one I made after lunch was a mistake on my part, hehehe. I got caught up in the excitement when I read the headliner on another site and immediately posted up the thread, then realized "Hey you idiot, you didn't even think to check the front page of MR did you? DOH!" Oh well, glad it was taken care of.

And you answer your question, yes, yes I do LOVE WWDC! Especially this year because I've waited to get an iPhone for so long and this is MY year and I can't wait to see what WWDC will bring, be it just more 3.0 goodies revealed or the possibilities of a new iPhone all together!

I predict it will be focused mostly on "Snow Leopard," and probably some associated software developments. I hope the 3.0 software is released, but even that seems like a stretch to me. They'll probably set a date for its release, assuming it isn't released at the event.

Fair enough

Wow. Even though they advertise this even with a picture of the iPhone?
If that is true, I will give you money.

Did you look at the picture? It's clearly aimed at software developers (i.e. iPhone App developers). Why on earth does that mean that the 3.0 OS has to be released on the day of the event?

Hopes:
OLED hi-res screen
Upgraded camera lens and sensor
Faster processor and more RAM
Matte back
Battery battery life (Nano-Phosphate Li-Ion or some other new battery tech)
Better cell reception
Better GPS reception (WASS maybe?)

Predication:
Slightly updated Processor and RAM
5Mp camera
"Better" battery

Fears:
No updated hardware
5Mp camera without updated lens and sensor
A "Pro" iPhone that costs twice as much just to get these features

yea all i see is an upgraded processor and more RAM, maybe a memory bump, and maybe a new camera. They'll also do minor aesthetic changes so that everyone will know the "new" iphone when they see it, forcing fanboys to buy the new one because they wouldnt be caught dead with the former model.

Well not the day of the even but at least on the same day the next iPhone comes out.

you obviously havent seen the apple trend

announce software 2.0 then release new iphone with it (3g)

announce software 3.0 then release new iphone with it ( iphone pro?)

^ So one instance of something is a trend? I see what you're saying now.

The problem is that Apple isn't exactly honest about it. They claimed he was fine a few weeks before he said he was taking off on medical leave.

Maybe they didn't know. Maybe he didn't know. Doctors are sometimes confused, you know.

I think one of the things we all need to remember, as far as 'signs' that new hardware is coming is that we will probably begin seeing inventory shortages of the current iPhone 3G just as we did before the 3G announcement at WWDC'08.

And let's just say that we do not begin seeing signs of these inventory shortages, well, that could just mean that they are planning on keeping the current model and could still possibly add another model to the line-up.

Actually there are already reports coming in about possible inventory sweeps being set-up such as Fido to stop carrying the iPhone 3G at the beginning of April, O2 with their contract "free" iPhones starting April 2nd and let's not forget AT&T's 'no contract' phones that went on sale today for $6-700 (I wonder how that's working out for them anyways?).

Another true sign would be when we see the "AT&T, Apple employees not allowed vacation for all of June/July" :D

If BOTH of these occur, then you can be sure of it, SOME THING new is coming soon.

And btw, these new reports I mention about iPhone deals nearly match the same time frame we saw last year before the 3G.

@milani. I think you bring up some good points every now and then about why you think there will be nothing new coming this June but I still can't wait to say "I told ya so!" ;)...as I'm sure you just can't wait either. :D But I'm a man, I'll take what's coming my way for sure. lol.

When the new macbooks were released, we didn't see the product in the advertisement. It just had a spotlight on the apple logo.

This advert shows the iPhone. I'm guessing that means either the updates will be all internal, or there will be no hardware updates. Why would they use the old model in the advert and then release a new one? Maybe they did this previously, I don't know. I didn't care about the iPhone then. On the other hand, how much difference is there in the look of the old iPhone and the new one from the front?

Really, none of us know what apple is doing. We'll just have to wait and see. I wouldn't be surprised to see a silent update not related to the event, like with the Mac Mini, iMac and Mac Pros recently.

Just read this in the other main thread:

Showing a current iPhone in this invitation means absolutely nothing. Nada. Zilch. Now move along people, there's nothing more to discuss about the matter."

Now it makes a little more sense.

Plus, you're the second person on these boards that I've read thinks the iPhone could get a silent update. I just don't see that happening, UNLESS it's simply a capacity upgrade like they did in Feburary of '08. If it's a big enough upgrade I'm sure they will want to showcase this sometime during WWDC when everyone's watching.

Then again, like you said, could be just an internal upgrade, which could be at anytime right? Look at the iPod Touch 2nd Gen. When they released it, they didn't even advertise it as FASTER, MORE POWERFUL, no, it was found out a little later that it is faster without underclocking than the iPhone 3G and 1st gen Touch and 1st gen iPhone. So I guess I could see that happening, of course if it's a substantial upgrade as double RAM and Upgraded, Faster Processor, I'm sure people would be pretty pissed that they could have been told an announcement of some sort.

Anyways, we shall see!

Cheers bro! I hope that there is a new phone because clearly a lot of people's hopes are riding on it. Obviously my thoughts on the subject are pretty transparent by now, but I really don't have anything riding on the result - I'm locked into a 3 year contract, and I don't think I would be eligible for an upgrade before that point.

My prediction:

iPhone Crap
7.2mbps internet speeds over 3g
32gb
improved ram/specs
possibly video recording but i kinda doubt that
maby slightly better camera but no flash
Available in a month or two

mac crap
Snow leopard released in October/nov

whatever its going to be i will have to wait i will be 10 months in contract in june however the oled screen is a big tempatation i will just have to wait and see what apple offers if it aint oled just minor changes like memory bump faster processor iam sticking this one out untill WWDC 10

Well last night I went into my ATT store. I am a Verizon customer and going to be switching in June/July. I told the rep I will be leaving Verizon, paying the ETF and wanted an Iphone.(i had Original Iphone for about 2 months) I explained I wanted to wait till June or July since there would possibly be a new one coming out and the rep seemed to smile and nod and said I understand. Now I know store reps probably no a lot less than we do, but I feel if this rep hadn't been informed about anything, be it no vacations in that time frame, they would have just told me they haven't heard anything like that and would have tried to sell me the 3g, especially since I would be a new customer. That's just my little story why I believe there will be new hardware come then

yall should already know

hahaha come on.. Yall no the new iphone will be released at the conference. Some of you need to stop bluffing. You know it is! just admit it.. Secondly os x will not be "highlight" of the conference. More than likely its going to be released in July/August not the same day that it is shown! why u may ask? to give developers more time to prepare applications and etc for it. Iphone 3.0 will be givin an official release date. ANd that date will be the same date the new iphone comes out. Except it will probably be that evening after all of the USA can buy a 3g? so maybe round 2 oclock central time everyone will be able to download 3.0
Some people are down playing this conference this year. This will be a HUGE conference.
My predictions.
New iphone/released 2 weeks after conference
3.0/ released 2 weeks after conference
New mac os/ 2 months after conference
and i also believe the Mac Tablet will be introduced.
But it will not be shipping out till around september/october.. Kinda like the first Macbook air..
these are my predictions. Completly reasonable. and extremly possible.
I know theres more to iphone 3.0 than has been revealed. And i have a feeling the new iphone/ and the os will be mind blowing.

Just FYI,

Phone Different Podcast #36 (theiphoneblog bunch) is a pretty good episode. They kind of give their predictions on new hardware and explain why they think there will be something big. They really hit on all the other rumors we've been hearing but was a good show to listen to on the way to work this morning.

Check it out if ya get the chance. ;)

Everything I've read (I know, I know) says that the chip doesn't support WAAS.

Well technically thats totally true since WAAS was intended for precision GPS approaches into non-ILS (Instrument Landing System) airports.

The iPhone uses A-GPS to get a highly accurate location which is "almost WAAS." I HIGHLY doubt Apple is going to talk to the FAA and DOT to fully certify the iPhone with the actual WAAS.

What we have now is nearly identical to WAAS.

well what ever happens, its going to have some connection to software development. that could mean a new platform, os, or technique. this might be a good time for a tablet because it is a new platform. they need to show how to make apps, etc for it. thats how it ties in to a Developer's Conference.

iPhone-more on iphone os3.0/new hardware to take advantage of it.
iTablet/macbook touch-going to have to rework things for this new platform.
OS 10.5 SL-New os. new tools. new "features". etc.

Bottom line: Dont expect any hardware changes unless it Directly is conected to some new software that fits the canvas of a Developer's Conference.

While I see what you're saying, that could still mean ANYTHING right? Hardware wise (new camera/video/faster proc/RAM/etc.).

I'm saying that because look at last year with the upgrade to 3G and GPS, I guess in a way you could say those were dierctly related to software for you know, faster DL speeds of apps over 3G and maybe some GPS apps.

Video could spawn several apps.

Faster Processor and more RAM (with better battery to accomodate) will always make for a good upgrade for software to run smoother and not crash as often.

Agree? :)
