At WWDC 2016 next week, Apple will unveil the next major versions of iOS and OS X. Based on Apple's historic naming pattern, the operating systems are presumptively referred to as iOS 10 and OS X 10.12. However, there is evidence to suggest that Apple may instead rebrand OS X as macOS, in line with iOS, tvOS, and watchOS.

Ahead of the keynote, MacRumors readers have been sharing their iOS 10 and OS X 10.12 wishlists in our discussion forums. For OS X 10.12, some of the most popular feature requests include Siri integration, remote unlocking, Safari picture-in-picture capabilities, expanded Continuity and Handoff features, Mission Control and Notification Center improvements, a system-wide Dark Mode, and more.

Definitely on board for that Continuity feature and pinned tabs for Finder. Siri is great but I may forget about it just I do with spotlight new features.

Also, I love my Full Screen button. Please don't take it away, Apple

I wonder what will get the axe, if anything. It's pretty amazing that they haven't had to drop any Macs since 10.8. I've still got a 2007 iMac holding on for dear life with the latest OS, hoping I can get a few more years of support out of it.

Hopefully none get cut, but Apple being Apple is reason enough sometimes.

Increased stability would be welcome.

  • Finder: A sorting option to have folders pinned to the top of file lists. Ability to view total size of multiple selected folders in "Get Info" menu.

Bold:
Huh, that has been there for ages, select multiple Folders/Files then hit the Option-Command-I buttons.

Edit: Seems like I read it wrong, if that is an option in the Menu it's not a good idea imo, each and every time it will calculate the contents of even a single Folder/file if it is highlighted which is not needed, a simple Keyboard shortcut will do the trick.

(edit: In OS X...) ...I don't want my focus to be interrupted by instilling or restarting apps. I have beta of 1password, and it seems like at least once a day i'm writing/working and some installing or restarting app (like 1password) changes my focus from my writing to their splash screen, I switch back to my app, then get interrupted again to the restarting applications window..and I have to click to get my focus back to my app. I don't want my focus to be changed, ever.

I was actually just thinking that my 2007 iMac has been feeling a little arthritic under El Cap. But yeah, a few more years of support would be nice. It's not like the hardware is going to die anytime soon.

  • New filesystem that isn't an affront to data integrity would he nice.
  • H.265 in QuickTime/iTunes.
  • Bringing back a plethora of features (like "Save as..." over Duplicate!)
  • Bring back old "Get info" in iTunes. Also, don't nest the media kind picker... WTF. One extra click for what? My screen is 27", no need to nest that!
  • Fix Samba........
  • Let me disable keyboard/mouse battery warnings ffs...
  • Overall: give me more granular control over notifications. On iOS too. e.g.: I'd love to BAN and mark as SPAM notifications with a certain wording. No, not all Facebook notifications are bad, but by God I swear they are some of the worst spammers out there. The "no advertisements" rule also isn't enforced. So if Apple don't police it, let me do it. I can do it with my emails, why not put me in the driver's seat with notifications? Makes no sense.
  • Siri would be nice sure, but it's nothing I dearly need. It's certainly not going to wow me, so you better have enough stuff bundled up if you want to surprise me like in the old days.
  • Feature parity with iOS where you can reasonable expect it. (and vice versa) Seriously, this year-long wait of features finally being on both platforms is tiring. Thought the whole point of all-Apple is the great vertical integration? What gives?
  • If you still insist on selling Macs with HDDs (and also obviously support new OSes on older machines) you should really alter how OS X works on devices equipped with the scrub you put into them: kicking off Time Machine backups AND Spotlight re-indexing all at once WHILST login items are still loading? Sweet Jesus, it doesn't take a software engineer to figure out how this cannot possibly be a good idea. On an SSD sure, it will hardly matter, especially with great IOPS performance, but come on... Basic thinking! (then again I feel the desire to up-sell people into SSDs is strong, as you can use that infuriating experience as a great pitch!)
etc...

Oh hell yeah!
There's many more situations where focus will be stolen, but I wholeheartedly agree.
Especially when typing, or at least then, OS X should detect that you're trying to get stuff done and not bother you in such a way.

  • Make Fusion Drive standard in every base configuration.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^OMG FFS Give me 3 minutes to open my app to start reading something and then index away in the background!

My brother used to dual-boot Mavericks+ and Snow Leopard on his '09 MBP. It's not just TM and Spotlight. OS X in general has been nearly unusable on HDDs since Mavericks. And, even on an SSD, Snow Leopard is noticeably faster than Mavericks on the same computer (but not as big a difference as on HDD).

I would like to be able to have time machine be able to back up to any NAS device, not just time capsule. I have a synology NAS that I would love to use with time machine.
Yes, even AFP shares in OS X that supposedly support TM aren't 100% reliable with it.

All you need to do is select a track (or group of tracks), right-click them, then Shift+click on Windows or Option-click on Mac while selecting the Get Info menu.

Personally, I just want them to revert back the changes they borked intentionally after the last update, under right click, add to genius playlist / show genius recommendation, instead of having to up to to file menu etc.

How about they just fix Safari. I'm tried of "This website had a problem is being reloaded." Then I switch the Firefox and bing, loads faster and has no errors.

How about they get rid of having to have (an exaggeration) 50% whitespace everywhere and bring back usability clues. That way you don't have to click all over the page to see if some object is clickable. Then click again to see if its command-clickable, or option-clickable, or control-clickable, or shift clickable.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if they just added Siri and fixed bugs. What I really want is a new Mac Pro and retina cinema displays.

I don't have high hopes...
[doublepost=1465591412][/doublepost]I'd like to see a lot of things but based on Apple's track records the last few years we will see minimal modest changes. nothing to write home about.

option-click doesn't work anymore man. That's the problem. And if I remember right even when that worked they still had something removed from that Get Info window.

Are you on the latest iTunes? I'm on 12.4 (intentionally not 12.4.1)
