What a STUPID naming convention. Just give it the name of the year the software comes out, not the year after the year it comes out. I mean really !
It does make sense though. It comes out near the end of the year. Most of the year it’s the current OS will be the will be the year it’s named after. Not only that, but naming it for the previous will potentially give the perception it’s older than it is.What a STUPID naming convention. Just give it the name of the year the software comes out, not the year after the year it comes out. I mean really !
I know, right? I can't wait to see the confusion when we hit the year 2100 and everyone's confused about their software version. Is mine new? Is it a century old? Who knows?Did we learn nothing from Y2K?!
Totally agree with this. It makes things feel even more guarded and allows for stuff like contextually aware Siri to be presented as working demos more easily (if they had on-stage demos and then just a video of another feature, it makes that feature feel less like a working prototype in comparison). With everything being so easy to fake or doctor nowadays, a live demo (even when buggy) at least lends some authenticity to the thing.Only wish they would go back to live presentations. These over-produced "commercials" are getting too boring. What are they even using the Steve Jobs theater for anyways?
What’s the problem? It'll be iOS 100.I know, right? I can't wait to see the confusion when we hit the year 2100 and everyone's confused about their software version. Is mine new? Is it a century old? Who knows?

Presumably by your measure, no one can complain about every number one single, every film that is popular, every winner of every election, and whatever company makes the most money. Yawn.
Do you really believe our civilisation will still exist in 75 years? They way we’re going, the planet will be a nuclear wasteland.I know, right? I can't wait to see the confusion when we hit the year 2100 and everyone's confused about their software version. Is mine new? Is it a century old? Who knows?
Can't help but think that Apple probably wouldn't be in this 'Apple AI' mess if they were still doing live keynotes as it would be more difficult to rig a live demonstration on actual Apple hardware if the code/app/features weren't close to completion. At worst, they'd just be 'way behind' the AI bandwagon and could've just continued saying that they were perfecting it before releasing prematurely as being first to market has never been their MO.Only wish they would go back to live presentations. These over-produced "commercials" are getting too boring. What are they even using the Steve Jobs theater for anyways?
The 26 thing is really silly.
The best was probably 10.2, they should go back to that.
It's official, Apple corp has lost its mind. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT NUMBERS YOU USE, JUST RELEASE GOOD SOFTWARE AGAIN!
Considering Apple has not meaningfully updated iPhone, Apple Watch and most other products in years if they stop calling it with a different number every year people will not even realise it’s a newer model. How long do you think it will be before Apple does the same numbering convention on the hardware side, a la model years like vehicles?
Ha I hope there’s zero translucency. For some of us it’s a completely unnecessary gimmick that acrually just gets in the way. My eyes constantly try to “strengthen” or “put into better focus” items that are blurred out or made to look as if it’s in the background. There’s a reason we don’t use translucent paper on our desks. I need accessibility options to undo Apple’s gimmick.I really hope they don’t limit the fancy translucency to the new iPhones only, like they did with iOS 7.
no it makes sense to use the name which people will use 9 months of the year not 3What a STUPID naming convention. Just give it the name of the year the software comes out, not the year after the year it comes out. I mean really !
