Apple is now sending out emails to let developers know if they've been selected to attend the special WWDC viewing event that will be held on Monday, June 5 at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

Apple began accepting invites for the viewing event on Wednesday, March 29, the same day that the company announced the official dates for the 34th Worldwide Developers Conference. At the time, Apple said that developers would be informed if they were selected by 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, April 5, following an April 4 submission deadline.

Attendees are selected based on a random lottery system, with Apple Developer Program members, prior-year Swift Student Challenge winners, and Apple Entrepreneur Camp alumni eligible to enter. Apple also plans to invite students who win this year's Student Challenge, but that will involve a separate lottery.

Developers and students selected to attend will be able to visit the Apple Park campus on Monday, June 5. There will be a viewing party for the WWDC 2023 keynote event, as well as a viewing of the Platforms State of the Union. Developers will be able to interface with Apple engineers, visit the Developer Center, attend the Apple Design Awards ceremony, and "enjoy activities into the evening."

Those who plan to go to the viewing event will need to RSVP by April 10, and invitations are non-transferable. Apple is not providing travel or accommodations, so developers and students will need to fund their own travel costs, but the event itself is free to attend.

Of course a guy that's already been gets invited to come back...

Yes, I'm petty jealous like that.

J/K, congrats to all those who get invited. I"m not even a developer...

Developers used to stand, often for many hours before sunrise, in a line that went around the block at Moscone West to get a decent seat for the live WWDC keynote.

What changed? App development is now passé? Tim is that much more boring than Steve?
The world collectively (perhaps, one could say, through collectivism itself) lost its sparkle and its way...

Omg I'm invited!! Guess I have to find a flight from Germany to California now …
In the mean time I would make sure you have your passport and paperwork all in good ordered in case you get stop buy airport security for a random check you don’t want to get to California and then get deported back to Germany lol for not having all your paperwork in working order

holy crap I got an invite! I've tried for 4 years straight and finally got lucky. Any tips from anyone that went?

Is that 1st day mostly just watching the conference live with people
Are the developer sessions on Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri worth going to? Are they all day sessions?
I'm assuming food/drinks aren't provided, but do they have food at their headquarters for people, or employees only?
Any tours or is it mostly just rooms you walk into to learn
Are there meetups with other iOS devs in the community?
I know the invite is just for me, but can my wife join me on the other days/sessions?

So many questions sorry! I'm just really excited!

If Apple Goggles are coming, I envy you and congratulations to all those chosen to witness probably the most hilarious keynote of all time.

I also got an invite for the first time.

As far as I'm aware at post-covid wwdc only the first day is in-person and the developer sessions that would usually be on tue/wed/thu/fri are just streamed online, for every developer, no special treatments there.

People are reading waaaay too much into that design, as usual. I remember when this one had everyone claiming the iPhone was getting some kind of astrophotography feature...

I honestly LOVE how much this tripped up everyone, including me. no one saw Emergency SOS via Satellite [was] coming, and the tagline/pic nailed it—my mind just went to the obvious (for me) of “oh, improved night photography!” but like…when they announced it…yeah.

I’m sure they had a good giggle about alluding to a (genuinely life-saving) feature that, along with the extent of Dynamic Island, NO ONE knew about.

hats off to them for keeping that one in the bag.
[edit: thank you @adrianjagielak for proving me entirely wrong on this one, 2022 is still a blur to me, but…! I was wrong. 🤷‍♂️]

Satellite connection was literally rumored months before the announcement (with strong rumors at least a month before, I remember that whole thing when T-Mobile&Starlink announced satellite connection just weeks before iPhone 14 announcement and everyone assumed the timing was not an accident, but because they wanted to be ahead of Apple)

Edit: I found a relevant article from that time:
