Developers used to stand, often for many hours before sunrise, in a line that went around the block at Moscone West to get a decent seat for the live WWDC keynote.

What changed? App development is now passé? Tim is that much more boring than Steve?

The world collectively (perhaps, one could say, through collectivism itself) lost its sparkle and its way...
do we have to go through this again? the modern keynotes are so much better…yes, it was great to demo things in-person—and yes, Tim does not have good of a stage presence as Steve. I tire of long applause after every single feature is announced. getting these keynotes in a concise fashion, where I can sit down, learn about what’s new, and fanboy on my own is frankly more fun to me.

that’s just me; I honestly think this was one of the better outcomes of recent worldly events. (if this violates PRSI rules, please just edit this part out @ MR mods…!)

Satellite connection was literally rumored months before the announcement (with strong rumors at least a month before, I remember that whole thing when T-Mobile&Starlink announced satellite connection just weeks before iPhone 14 announcement and everyone assumed the timing was not an accident, but because they wanted to be ahead of Apple)

Edit: I found a relevant article from that time:

alright, I’ll take the L on that one 😆 always appreciate a good check

Getting rejected is a double edged sword. Yeah, I’m upset because it would be really cool to go. But on the other hand, my credit card doesn’t go up with flights, hotels, cars, etc.

I also got an invite for the first time.

As far as I'm aware at post-covid wwdc only the first day is in-person and the developer sessions that would usually be on tue/wed/thu/fri are just streamed online, for every developer, no special treatments there.
Oh really?? So there's no reason to stay in California the entire week of WWDC, just the 1st day (Monday), the rest is solely online?

Is there anything at all to do in person the rest of the days, or the building is just home to employees like a regular work week?

Sorry I'm sure you don't have all the answers, wonder how things went last year and if it'll be the same

Omg I'm invited!! Guess I have to find a flight from Germany to California now …

Got invited too and I'm also from Germany. How long do you plan to stay?

I randomly signed up for the lottery without thinking about what would happen when I got selected… well here I come California :)
