I've been wondering this myself lately and just so happened to stumble upon theiphoneblog website late tonight to see an article that caught my eye.

When in the World is WWDC 2009?

    http://www.theiphoneblog.com/2009/03/25/world-wwdc-2009/

Last year WWDC 2008 was announced on March 14 2008, here it is now March 25th with still no actual date, just a "see ya in June". I know Apple is changing things up a bit this year with no more MW and a 'release when ready' type of attitude but I figured we'd have something solid with a pretty picture by now.

Anyways, this story led me further to speculate...

Remember the little story that popped up a month or two ago about "two possible dates for wwdc"?

    Here's a link: http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/03/06/two_possible_dates_for_apples_wwdc_2009_emerge.html

"tipsters informed AppleInsider last week that May 16-22 was reserved for a convention only listed as a "corporate meeting" in the events schedule at Moscone Center, the convention center that has hosted WWDC, as well as the winter Macworld Expo, for many years. Apple has hid WWDC behind that same anonymous listing in years past."

"However, the Baltimore Sun points out today that a second "corporate meeting" was added to the convention center's calendar this week for June 6-12, which seems more likely for the annual developers' gathering. Both listings -- the one in May and the one in June -- are for Moscone West, where Apple has historically held the event."

Ok, still with me? Follow along...

I found this link today that says China Unicom has confirmed they will carry the iPhone and the launch date has (supposedly) been set for May 17th.

    Link: http://www.9to5mac.com/china-unicom-iphone-confirmed

"Yesterday was no fluke. China Unicom, with its 150 million subscribers (much more than AT&T), has confirmed that it will be selling the Apple iPhone beginning on May 17th, 2009 to China's 1.3+ billion potential customers."

So. With that information compiled, I wonder what the odds would be of us seeing an event mid-May sometime for the launch of a new iPhone model coinciding with the China iPhone release and maybe yet another event mid-June sometime for official 3.0/Snow Leopard release. (Apple 3.0 media event, "See ya in June") Hmmmmm.

The only thing about that mid-May date is that the 17th actually lands on a Sunday. And the "event" at Moscone is open for 16-22, that's starting from Saturday to Friday. Event Saturday with Sunday release? Nah. Maybe that dates wrong for the 17th and should be the 20th? Event Tues. (19th), Release (20th)? Maybe. Nothing at all, I'm looking too much into it? More than Likely. :D

But anyhow, I'm REALLY looking foward to WWDC this year and can't wait to see what Apple has in store for us....other than the obvious.

    Thanks.

    You're thoughts?

Are we sure there's going to be a WWDC? I know it's Apple's own show but they've been shying away from ANY shows.

Maybe the June timeline doesn't suit and we'll get an iPhone Special Event instead with the developer stuff moved online reminiscent of their "1000 Macworlds a day at our Apple Stores" statement.

Apple haven't committed to having a WWDC as yet.

Would China want the tail end of the iPhone 3G production run?

Surely they'll get the v3 iPhone.

    You're right!

I was a little worried about this when we heard they were pulling out of MW, wonder if they'll scrap WWDC as well and just do as you said and have special little events for iPhone, Snow Leopard, etc, just like they did the 3.0 media event. What was it, just a week before the actual event that we heard it was coming?

To add to this theory of 'iPhones in May', check out these shortage dates followed by shortage dates of the original iPhone last year.

    Just a few...

3/20/09 AT&T "Deal" on iPhones to short inventory? (Go in effect Today the 26th)

    http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/03/o2-offers-lower-contract-prices-for-free-iphones.ars

3/20/09 Fido Depleting iPhone Stock Starting in April? (Go in effect beginning of April)

    http://www.intomobile.com/2009/03/2...eplete-iphone-3g-stock-starting-in-april.html

3/20/09 O2 Offers Lower Contract Prices for "Free" iPhones. (Go in effect April 3rd)

    http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/03/o2-offers-lower-contract-prices-for-free-iphones.ars

Compare to last years iPhone version 1 shortages prior to the iPhone 3G announcement/release.

5/10/08 Apple's 2G iPhone Shortage Prior to iPhone 3G Release.

    http://www.takingthebridge.com/2008/05/apple/apples-2g-iphone-shortage-prior-to-3g-iphone-release/

4/2/08 iPhone Shortages Expand, New Model Soon?

    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/iphone-shortages-expand-to-8gb-model-new-models-soon/

4/2/08 iPhone Shortage Hints at Imminent Refresh.

    http://www.tuaw.com/2008/04/02/iphone-shortage-hints-at-imminent-refresh/

5/9/08 First Gen iPhone Shortage Hits NYC.

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/05/first_gen_iphone_shortage_hits_nyc-2.html

So, yea, looks like they are about the same with both of them showing signs and starting up speculation of shorting stock in preparation for a new model.

For a minute I was thinking with all these new reports of iPhone inventory supposedly being worked down in April that it HAD to mean something could possibly be here in May but now with my further research it seems normal and it could be June just as last year.

I'm still waiting to hear any reports for today of how many $6-700 iPhones AT&T were able to sell.

If you waited less than 24 hours you wouldn't have had to post this thread. Glad we finally got an answer

=MuLti-CeLL= Maybe you should ask when we are getting the 32gb iphone, better battery, better camera, video, etc and then Apple will tell you about 12 hours later
