Well on the developer.apple.com/students site, it says

That makes it sound like all entrants will be notified

The email i received when i submitted my application stated:

"Scholarship awards will be made in April of 2008. Scholarship recipients will be notified in email."

which makes it sound like only recipients will be notified?

hmm... guess we'll have to just wait and see....

Well, looking at the student-dev mailing list, nobody on there has heard back either. There is a mention of somebody in Australia getting accepted, but that is a different program than the one in the States.

Turns out Steve got his hands on the applications this year, he found every single resume either sub par or just so poorly designed that he denied everyone. Guess there's always next year.

I figured it out. The way we're supposed to find out is to develop a program that hacks into their database to see if we're in or not.

30 minutes to 5 west coast time. I dont know if that's quittin time at apple, but it looks unlikely for responses today.

5:40 on the west coast and still nothing. I'm starting to think an April announcement is out of the picture.

Congratulations. The Apple Developer Connection is pleased to offer you a Student Scholarship to attend the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2008 taking place at Moscone West, June 9-13, in San Francisco.

Nice :)

See you guys there!

Hey got my letter at 9:38 EST..... Looks like I'm goin'!!!!!!!!!!! Any one else get accepted??

I got in as well!!!
so do we get into the keynote as well as the other sessions?

No, last year we all thought we would and then at the last minute they put us all into an overflow room, even though we were all waiting in line with everyone else. But it was still fun (we just watched it via a projector live.)

They keynote really isn't a highlight for me even if I was going as a regular developer. The sessions are what rock!

So what level of developers do the sessions target? I am a intermediate-advanced developer but more of a beginner in mac & iphone development, I am trying to decide if its worth my time and money to attend...

I got mine. I'm in too. That sucks about the keynote. I hope they let us watch it in person this year. I gotta start going through the sessions and see what I'm going to do.

i was lucky enough to get in as well, i am going to decide in the next few days if i am gonna make the trip

i am in LA right now, so thats easy

but what is the experience like for students? do people get together and hang out? are people friendly and such? since i just would be traveling by myself, I would hope to meet some other people to hang out with and have a good time.

I watched some of the sessions on iTunes. The beginner cocoa session would be perfect for someone with programming experience but not with Mac programming.

I wonder when we will get more info on the logistics, probably a week or so.

Hey everyone,

I just received my acceptance today also; I'm pumped! I'm interning at Google this summer in Mountain View so I'll be fairly close to San Francisco come this June. Is anyone else in the bay area for this summer? It'd be sweet if some of us could meet up or at the very least exchange contact information before the WWDC.

This year it looks like they are targeting developers new to the iPhone/Mac environment.

I doubt they will. The keynote is really just marketing, nothing to do with developers. After the keynote on Monday, they have their "state of the unions" sessions for the developers, and that is where they basically give an overview of what's going on with the Mac and iPhone. Those are 10x better than the keynote :)

Yes, I got together with a few students last year and it really made it a more personal experience. They are getting together via Facebook, and talking about it on the Apple student-dev list - I'd suggest subscribing to that for more info (especially if you're looking to find a roommate).

Yes, in about a week or so they'll start sending out emails with more details.

is there any specific requirements that are needed to get in? or is it just by chance?

do you need to have heavy computer programming background in order to be considered?

Do you have to pay taxes on the e-ticket? Does anyone know from prior years? Also, I hope the keynote is included this year, but we'll see I guess.

The questionnaire we filled out contained MANY career/programming experience related questions along with sending the resume. I assume they did look for programming/mac programming experience.
