who would pay this and why?
There are people who pay for Twitter because they think they’re ‘owning’ some other group of people. Musk was smart. He knew he needed to get people to subscribe so one of the first things he did after buying Twitter was go after ‘blue check’ and take it away from most of the verified who had it. Then he got a bunch of rubes to subscribe so they’d get their ‘blue check’ and haha they have a ‘blue check’ now and the others don’t. Of course now they’re paying Twitter every month while most of those who lost it said ‘fine’ and didn’t pay to get it back.

Announcing the launch of Y... for 10% less than these new rates*. Y offers great advantages of not needing to post anything nor needing to check anything: both tremendous time savers that can go towards living an actual life in reality and interacting with real people in proximity. And when people ask why you waste this money every month, you can reply with our tagline: "That's Y"

Feel free to send this kind of money to me. First 5K subscribers get the special Y title of Supreme Master of the Metaverse. So act fast.

And I hear only the coolest of the cool kids are on Y**. So if you are not, you must be uncool. ;)

IMPORTANT NOTE TO APPLE FANS: a segment of people already on Y are arguing PC > Mac and Android > iPhone. Act fast to save those who might be influenced by biased posts against Apple. Hurry. "They" seem to be winning.

*then going to the normal rate tracking at 2.5X these rates after the trial period of 3 months.
**besides you paying for us to do so, YES we also sell your data... but only what is cool about you. If you are uncool, we don't care about your data.

Also, another reminder that Mastodon is free, though I recommend springing for Ivory, plus making a small donation to the people maintaining this service if you can. :)

Twitter/X has become an absolute right wing cesspool. I don't mean like even extreme Republican- but it's moved into absolute fascist territory. Almost everything someone posts, even if not political, is made political and gets attacked by bots and maybe even some real people and the algorithm makes sure as many eyes see the worst content.

Like a few million others, I move from X to BlueSky. I have more interaction with the 234 followers I have there then with the over 700 I had on X. The reason is simple, on X, two thirds of those 700+ were either dead accounts or bots. The other 150-200 were barely seeing anything I posted.

BlueSky has no algorithm. You just see the posts of those you follow in chronological order and that's it. You can click a Discover feed to see other posts, but it's an option, not the default like "For You" is on X.

About five or six weeks ago, I downloaded all 27,200 posts I had on X dating back to 2010. I then deleted all of them and removed all my followers. I then stopped following all except about 150 feeds (I was following about 500). The feeds I still see are pretty generic stuff- the NYC MTA, Apple related stuff, and some NASA feeds. I also turned the account private so no one can follow me.

Since I've done that, it turns out, I haven't missed it one bit.
& what was “Twitter” before Elon purchased it? Your typical Left wing main stream biased media…
X is pretty balanced now that it isn’t silencing free speech as Twitter did literally.

Hahaha, X shows what Musk wants it to show - which is fine, he owns it. But don't claim it's free speech. Musk has taken down some content and left others. Banning the jet follow account, banning accounts that link to IG/Bsky/Mastodon/etc... taking down content requested by authoritarian regimes where Musk is trying to do business, but leaving/ignoring similar requests from others.

As long as they keep sucking up energy to make monopoly money, I'm happy to miss out. New "currencies" just sound boring. Wooo, another way to transfer wealth from one person to another..yawn.
Fiat costs enormous amounts of energy as well to keep the systems running, no difference there. And yes, it is just another assets class or classes. It's still interesting from an investment perspective. Can have some great opportunities when you know what you are doing in trading, or alternatively, even with an ETF it can be excellent.
AI and crypto; this is the most boring the tech world has been in 30 years.
I don't think this ages well; neither with AI nor with 'crypto'. And yes, whilst cryptocurrencies are one element and can represent assets classes, the blockchain technology is definitely exciting. Crypto != Blockchain || Distributed Ledger Technologies.

Twitter, ah well, it is amusing at times, but wouldn't be my main source. Definitely wouldn't be paying for it.

I have been with Twitter sind year one and have a 4 digit handle so I am reluctant to give it up, but since I switched to Bluesky a while ago I deleted the app. Oh and the same 4 digit name was available there as well. :) I just need to delete the Twitter account now. Bluesky is so relaxed and friendly.

I sure don’t, but there are plenty who do. I just prefer to spend my money on things that are worth wild not stuff like in this fashion. It’s just not worth my time money or effort.

I've yet to close my account, but really regret what its become.

I've downloaded the archive which stretches back to January 2009. Not convinced there is much of any archival value though ;)

Still, Twitter was a useful platform for both work and play - maybe it was unusual but I never had any bad experiences there. Can't say the same about X which is mostly a stream of vile comment and images interspersed with the odour of Musk.
