So to hard reset you need to hold all three buttons? I thought you just had to hold volume down and power as if your turning it off

May I ask you why you needed to hard reset the iPhone? I had a very bizarre issue this afternoon (screen completely unresponsive to touch for some minutes) and I wonder if the same happened to you. Eventually it started working again on its own but I was kinda worried.

I had an issue where in the lock screen I kept trying to swipe up but it won’t leave the lock screen even though the Face ID icon shows unlocked. The screen would just bounce up. I tried to power off regularly but it doesn’t respond to my swipe on the Power off slider. I worked around it by using search to get safari to open. The scroll was very unresponsive. I thought it was a hardware failure. After doing a proper hard power off / restart it was ok again and I haven’t experienced it again yet.

Had to throw that, “yet” in didn’t you. Have you ever owned a computer, phone, tablet, modem, cable box, Wi-Fi hub, where the software has not hung up at one time or another? It happens so we reboot.

Course it’s gonna be a frantic and exciting reboot when the computer of the self driving car we are sitting in back seat of locks up at 70 mph. Exciting times a coming.😱​

That’s just to power off. If you want a hard reset, or if your screen is unresponsive, you can do the volume up, volume down, side button. That resets with only physical buttons.

My takeaway from this thread is that nobody reads the manual.

There’s a manual?!? I’ve had every iPhone since the 3GS and have never seen one. They made one for iPad that I have but never got one for an iPhone. 🙂
