I'm jumping from the X to the 12 mainly because of the AT&T trade-in credit.
Deals like that have not been the norm for a while now and I'm not going to gamble on it being repeated next year.

What are they offering for the X ?
I am having problem with the 30 month credits.

$800 credit over 30 months.
Its been a while since I upgraded yearly (hence my X) so I've got no problem with the 30 months.
If a better phone comes out next year with a similar deal I can always give the 12 to my wife or son.

I have an X with a new Apple installed battery. I had been planning on upgrading to the 12 pro but the camera difference between it and the Max has me really annoyed. I don't want the huge phone but do want the best camera. So I'm seriously considering waiting until next year on the hopes that they will equalize the cameras on the pro models. My X really still is a decent phone and I don't feel the pressure to upgrade that I've had in the past.
Out of interest, how is the phone performing after the battery change? Mine is at 79% now and is starting to feel like a phone that hasn't been charged all the way...

I have an Xs and I might go for a 12.

Benefits:
Screen Size from 5.8" to 6.1"
Wifi 5 to Wifi 6
5G (on Verizon so I will get coverage at no additional charge)
Will stick with 64GB because I never use more (Stream Everything)

Had to be honest with myself and I don't use the camera on the phone to the point that its worth getting the pro version.

I am also on this X. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this device except for my battery getting worse, currently at 83%. I am considering trading in my device with verizon to get the 15$ month over 24 months with the 12 since its kinda a good deal.

I am two hours away from an Apple store so by time i spend money on gas and a new battery thats almost 4 months of payments for the new device. My only concern with going with the 12 is i do not need those extra features. 5g will not be coming in my area for a long time and my wife has an 11 pro for when we need to take pictures. Other than some lag when opening messages and trying to type messages, im not really having any issues.

Trying to decide between replacing the battery in my almost 3 year old iPhone X or getting a 12 pro.

I know my phone is almost 3 years old but it was the last time i was truly excited for a phone from apple. Anyone else feel the same? I know the specs are way better than the X's but ...

I do know what you mean. I too am most likely upgrading to the 12pro but having some issues parting ways with the X lol

So one thing I hate about my X is the WiFi strength. In the Bahamas we were at a resort and my wife has a Google phone. No issues what so ever with WiFi. I could barely get on! The 12pro will improve the strength ya?

Also the battery is absolutely horrendous on my X.

I fully agree with you and have never understood why people upgrade phones every year.
I think people have started to think like a car payment.... "well you are ALWAYS going to have a phone payment"...

96% after three years on the X battery is amazing! was it ever replaced?

The 12 pro deff has enough to upgrade from the X and will wait for the notches phone probably in 2023-2024... maybe 2022 could see it.

The telephoto is the big thing that make the 12 a non-starter for me. Use it all the time on the X.
The telephoto is the main reason I’m going with the Pro from my X also. I’m really tempted by the lighter 12, but I’ll also be going 128gb as my X is 64gb and I’ve run out of space after 3 years. And the price difference is down to only $120 with the larger storage option. Makes sense to go Pro.

im at 86% on my THIRD iPhone X , with double glass front and back I really used apple care a lot this time around :) so to me that doesn't bode well

It was more than 10 years ago when it was every year; now its when the battery is going haha

One key diff to me is the 12 Pro supposedly has the higher memory count vs the regular 12, I remember when that was such a big deal in the 6/6 plus days

Either way its still a pretty penny for even a regular 12

12 Pro is definitely great. Next year, 120hz is going to be there, but it's not that big of a deal considering the screen is smaller. It's not an iPad after all. Might get an extra hour of battery life, but it's not a big deal. They might get rid of the lightning port and keep magsafe as being the defacto charging standard and make everything wireless, but it's not groundbreaking. Could the notch be smaller? Maybe, but they probably wouldn't make that drastic of a change in 2021, maybe in 2022.

Regardless, it's been so long since we saw a memory upgrade. the 6GB in the 12 Pro definitely seals the deal for being a worthy upgrade.

My iPhone X is at 53% and the only thing that makes it tolerable is the Smart Battery Case. I could get the phone's battery replaced but at this point I would rather spend that money on a new phone since this is the first year I've been at all tempted to upgrade (gotta have them square sides!)

I'm going for the iPhone 12 Pro in either 256GB (which is what I have now) or 512MB (almost certainly unnecessary, but I like having extra room).

Coming from Iphone X the next years Iphone 13 should be more substantial update regarding the screen and cameras.
X to 12 Pro is a pretty substantial upgrade in cameras. That's three generations of upgrades you're getting.

im gonna do something I've never done, gasp update old hardware to the latest OS EVEN when I have new hardware coming :)

I guess I should see if ill see any performance improvement huh while I still have a week right? :)

I’ve had iPhone X since launch day and I’m over it! Battery life is getting pretty terrible and I’m looking forward to the camera upgrades. Looking forward to 2023 for my next iPhone purchase lol

3yr old X here too, battery at 85%. Was contemplating upgrading to the 12 Pro or possibly the 12 Pro Max. I always upgrade mid December so I'm going to wait and see how the roll out for both phones goes and reviews before I decide. I may just have the battery replaced on my X and use it for another year. It's been a fantastic phone with no issues and replacement isn't necessary but I do admit a new phone is always a great experience.
