I'm considering returning my 2017 touchbar for an X1 Yoga if I can hackintosh it. I just can't take the touch bar or the keyboard anymore.

Can anyone guide me through the process? this would be my first time. I'm just sort of out of options. Maybe ebay a 2015?

Am I off base here?

I can't speak specifically for an X1 Yoga, but I do know that every time I try to see if there is any laptop out there at all that can be 99% compatible with Hackintosh, I find that there is no such thing. Even 80-90% working is rare.

If you can get it working at all, expect it to be unreliable, expect several features to not work, and worry about OS updates breaking anything or everything.

Hackintosh is really for desktops where specific components can be purchased that are known to work well with MacOS.

If any PC maker out there would make a laptop where 100% of the components just happened to be hackintosh friendly, I bet they'd have unexpectedly high sales once "golden build" status was confirmed and word got out.

The only way you can be sure to have a fully compatible hackintosh is if you build it yourself. No laptop, but a desktop computer. Just Google and acquire all components used in an Apple computer and look on the hackintosh sites for tips.
A pre made bought non Apple laptop is almost certain to give problems.

Makes a lot of sense, thanks.

Think you need to research more, as some notebooks will run OS X without too much issue; Dell, ThinkPad, HP etc. equally it's very model specific. Personally I wouldn't consider as my notebooks are employed professionally and a small silent update can easily break the system.

Better to opt for a 2015 design or if not locked into OS X a Windows based Notebook.
