hi,

I just got a new iMAC and am frustrated with X11. It is installed (off of the CD originally...I have also installed it from an online dmg) and I can see the app under Applications/Utilities but when I click on it nothing happens! Similarly "open -a X11" doesn't work either. Any ideas? I can keep reinstalling until the cows come home but nothing changes.

There is not a lock file in my /tmp directory.

Thanks!

I ran into the same sort of issue. From what I've read Apple changed the implementation of X11 in Leopard and it is still a little quirky. This Leopard and X11 FAQ was very helpful.

What I did to correct my X11 issue was to install the latest X11 package release from the Xquartz Project.

Hope this helps.

Yep the new version which was released a couple of days ago is pretty stable and a hundred times better than the version that shipped with Leopard. Install version 2.2.0.1 and you will be good to go.
