thanks a lot,
yeah I'll probably be going to GameStop this friday to buy the 360 Premium: 60GB.

I want to put maybe one or two games onto the HDD to eliminate loading time - but other than that, the HDD will be for storing saves and downloading patches/a few demos. no music/video files, really...

i still haven't found out myself how to burn games onto the HDD:eek:...but yeah, 60GB should be fine for your needs, and HDMI is drop dead sexy:D, to bad i don't use it anymore:(.

i think that's the most smiley faces i've used in a single post here haha.

By burning games onto HDD, do you mean install the game to HDD? If so, then turn on your xbox 360, go to My Xbox (where you start the game.) On the first item (the game currently in the tray), notice that you can press button A to Select or button Y to Game Details. Press Y, then you should be able to see the first option: Install to Hard Drive. And just wait until the installation is done. That's it. :)

No problem. :D

Microsoft didn't make it that obvious anyway, I believe many people are still not taking advantage of this only because they have no idea how to. Enjoy the (almost) noise-free gaming experience.

I know this is a little late but I just saw the thread, component is absolutely capable of 1080p it generally even has a better picture, color appears much warmer, think record vs cd, records if done right sound better due to higher bitrate. While yes since it is analog you can notice a degradation in quality based on cabling it has nothing to due with it being complete 1080p. Simple put it is the connectors on your display that cause the problem. Most TV's cannot accept the signal via component the first ones that could were the LCxxB92u series that could. As far as 1080p goes its all maketing hype think minimum 56-60" to be able to actually see it. Otherwise your generally stuck walking about 2 inches away from a 50" and staring at text to notice a difference, obviously with icons as a computer monitor this is an exception. And yes there is no real difference between a good HDMI cable and a cheap one its digital simply put meaning works or doesn't however cheap cable generally have poor construction for example tips are glued instead of sodered causing signal loss or broken cables most commonly.

Got paid today - going out at around 3 to pick it up - you're right the difference between $250 and $299 is not enough to warrant not getting a warranty and a brand-new system.
thanks everyone.

keep talkin it up though, if you want.

Gamertags anyone?
lets play - I'll prob buy Halo 3 first

i have gone through 3 xboxes. My elite (bought 01/11/08) got E74 on 02/20/09, and MS wouldnt do anything for me. The elite was my 2nd xbox. I wish they would offer an extended warranty. Most places dont, except for sears and best buy. I was pissed at MS, didnt want to spend $100 plus 6 weeks of waiting. went out and bought an arcade (since i have the 120GB drive) and tried to fix it my self via the tutorials online. I did fix the E74 for about a month, but it has failed. In hindsight, i should've paid the $100, because now there is a motherboard of the elite with a screwdriver sticking throught it:)

Honestly, i would buy on ebay or craigslist. ebay offers a warranty through squaretrade, and they seem reputable. Craigslist has a plethora of xbox's for way cheap. Just make sure they aren't modded in any way, as a lot of people flash the box, thus the warranty sticker is gone, unless it is refurbed,in which case there is no sticker.
