I'm sitting here trying to decide if I should upgrade to OS X Lion. One of the things that is stopping me is Xcode.

  • If I go to Lion, do I have to go to Xcode 4.2?
  • Can I use Xcode 4.2 on Snow Leopard?
  • Any reason NOT to go to Xcode 4.2?
Please share your thoughts, including any that believe I'm making this too hard. I'm at a point right now where I'm not changing anything (well, except maybe my underwear ;)) but pretty soon I'll be at a point where I can change my environment.

Thanks!

Ron C

The current release version of Xcode for Lion is 4.1.1, which you can download for free from the App Store. Xcode 4.2 is available for Lion and Snow Leopard (different packages for each), and is fairly stable but still has some annoying bugs. If you want to develop for iOS 5, then you must use Xcode 4.2.

XCode 4.2 is right now only available as beta; i believe many are waiting or the version for beta 6; look over in developer.apple.com for more details.
