I enabled Multitasking gestures for a friend's iPad 2 (he didn't want to buy Xcode 4). I plugged it in, clicked "Use for development", and then did *not* sign in when it prompted me for my Apple developer account.

Multitasking gestures was still enabled on his device. It just wasn't added to any developer profile or anything.

Also, my iPad 2 is running 4.3.3, and Multitasking gestures is still enabled and working.

Some posts make it sound like you can no longer enable it on 4.3.3 - but it still works if you update to 4.3.3, while the original post makes it sound like it is LOST if you upgrade to 4.3.3, which I know isn't true.

Yes most of us enabled multitasking gestures by just using the Use for development button in Xcode 4. But that was before iOS 4.3.3. I know the gestures still work in iOS 4.3.3 but we are asking if you can still enable them in an iPad that is currently running iOS 4.3.3. From what it looks like you can't, we do know that if you enabled them prior to iOS 4.3.3 and then later upgraded they will still be enabled.

I have upgraded to 4.3.3 the day it came out, but it wasn't until today when I noticed the Multitasking Gestures option was gone from Settings -> General.

Multi-Tasking Gestures are still working, just the Settings options were gone.
So, what I did to bring them back was fairly simple:

- Run Xcode,
- Open the Organizer (Shift Command 2),
- Select your device.

(If you haven't updated xCode 4 to the latest release you will get a message that says something similar to: "Unknown iOS version". Don't worry.)
- Click on the option/button labeled "Use for Development" if present.

(There's an option on the right side that says something like: "click here to retrieve iOS information, etc.").
- Go ahead and click on it; it will copy your iOS version from the iPad back to Xcode.

- After the above completes, General -> Settings - Multitasking Gestures will be restored.

That's all. No need to Jailbreak or use any 3rd party tools. And you don't need to be a Registered Developer either to make it work as before. :D

UPDATE: I just read what Benhollberg mentions above. It would be very useful if someone could try to enable Gestures on an iPad already running 4.3.3, and report back. I'm currently trying to get one.
One possibility is that something was changed on the latest build of Xcode 4 that now does require a valid developer account on order to enable Gestures. It wouldn't hurt to try on the first build of Xcode to see if it works.

My iPad 2 is the same way (4.3.3 w/gestures) but from reading through the whole thread the issue seems to be JB'ing iPad 1s with RedSn0w is causing the issue. If you restore then re-JB using Pwnage Tool you can then re-enable gestures through one of the many available methods.

Easier way to enable gestures.

Enabling multitasking gestures from redsn0w does not work for some people.

I found an easier way to enable multitasking gestures for firmwares 4.2 to 4.3

Step 1: Download iFile from Cydia.

Step 2: Go to: System > Library > CoreServices > Springboard.app > N90AP.plist

Choose to open this file with Text Viewer, then scroll down until you see
"<key>multitasking-gestures</key>"

See photo: http://i52.tinypic.com/2cwlpon.png

Step 3: Change the line <false/> to <true/> then tap Save and then Done.

Step 4: Respring and go to Settings > General and scroll down until you see Multitasking Gestures and turn this feature on.

Enjoy multitasking :)

My file was named K48AP.plist, so it may vary. Everything is working fine now. I am jb with redsn0w

I tried to unlock the gestures on my iPad 2 but Xcode (version 3.2.6) does not find any of my device in Organizer. I tried my iPad 2, iPhone 3G, and 2 iPhone 4s but none of them are recognized by Xcode. Does anybody know help?

Doesn't work on my iPad 1 running 4.3.3_8J3. I jailbreaked with 4.3.3.1 (fresh install, I just bought this pre-owned).

I tried editing my K48AP.plist, but it already had <true/> for multitasking-gestures. I toggled off and on again, but still can't find the gestures option on settings and gestures don't work.

Any idea?
