I am a total newbie to xcode. vb.net experience holds nothing to what I am now finding.
Ive been searching for days on something relating to copying pics from iPhone PHOTO GALLERY (NOT Camera Roll) to Mac. It really seems to be an elusive topic.
This is where I am now at a total loss. I have seen examples of taking pics and then viewing them but its all been Camera Roll access.
I specifically want to access iPhones directory structure and copy photos that I now only have on my phone.
Although complete code would be solo nice and save me a lot of time, I would be happy to be pointed into the right direction.
The closest I have been is NSFileManager and UIPicker......... Not had much satisfaction in these two areas in putting it all together.

Im not after the final solution but some detailed assistance in getting a start would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

dejo, I have looked at the posted link and is reads if it is what I am looking for. I know have the fun of trying to understand and use it :( ... my first app...lol
Appreciate any code samples (links) that you may know of that uses 'UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary'

Thank you for the reply and pls forgive for the VERY poor topic heading...now amended.

Thanks again.

Just read the link. It all seems to refer to iphone apps. Is UIImagePicker..... also applicable with an app running on a Mac??

To explain a little further....
I want an app on my Mac to access my iPhone directory structure...particularly Photos. I have MANY albums which I synced to mt phone thinking at the time it was a smart way to store them. Since I no longer have my PC I need them now on my Mac.

I know I got a long way to go with understanding this language and these methods but I will persist!! I just need a kick start in the right direction. I should also add I am still playing with 'Hello World' routines.

Tried iPhoto? Or iExplorer?

To write a Mac app that accesses the images on your iPhone (or your camera, for that matter), take a look at the Image Capture API

Hmm, are you looking to build an app or simply looking for a third-party one that provides the functionality you need? If the latter, perhaps a thread in the Mac Applications and Mac App Store forum would yield better responses.

Reason007 and demo....
I have searched for something to do this SIMPLE task but to o avail...Unless I pay. The process does not seem so complicated to ask such big $$$$ for a simple task. Im a BIG believer in PAY FOR WHAT YOU GET.

I am very familiar with vb.net but do not want Windoes on my Mac...Im no longer a Windows person. TOTAL CONVERSION.
I also dont believe in reinventing the wheel!!!
It is VERY difficult to find something free to do this so I have resorted to writing something....which I would post as free!! FREE....YES!!!!

If it has been done then I would be wasting my time but sadly it is difficult to break through search algarithyms from Google and and Yahoo.....Sooo tiring doing continual searched to get the Same Old Sh...(SOS)

Summary......
If there is something free then it would be what I want...
Cause I cant find anything free I am wanting to develop something me AND others would benifit from!

Pardon me for my apparent abruptness but it can be a VERY frustrating process!

Thanks always for ya replies guys.

If you just want to copy photos from your iPhone, and don't want to buy iPhoto, you can use the "Image Capture" app that comes free with Mac OS X.

If you want to browse/access all folders on your iPhone (not just photos), iExplorer is a good bet. iExplorer used to be a free app, though they've made it shareware in the latest version. But you can still use most of the features for free in the "demo" mode.

Reason007...Image Capture only works with Camera Roll and iExplorer does not allow the copying of photos.... Ive tried most if not all options. Thats why I asked the question as I did.
Thanks for your time to rely anyway.

What do you mean by Photo Gallery? Do you mean the Gallery app that Apple provided for accessing Mobile Me galleries? As you won't have access to another apps data...

Im not sure where it should be. Its a bit 3 dimensional :)
The request is SIMPLE.
An app that runs on my Mac that will access my photo albums.
On the iPhone there is "Camera Roll" (which is the default place to store taken photos) and there is "Photo Library" which stores other photos that have been synced. iPhone 3 (all releases) has the same structure.
All the available Apple software for managing photos DOES NOT access the Photo Library.
I didnt mean to make this such a complicated thread.

robbieduncan >> I think if you read my previous posts you will see I have answered ALL your questions. I was just after a SIMPLE solution.

dejo >> If this should be in another forum then I would be happy to ask the question there. I am here for help. I do not know which is the appropriate forum for the simplest answer :) I would appreciate an indication of which is the most appropriate forum.

Thank you both for your time to read and reply.

I would start a thread in the Mac Applications and Mac App Store forum, asking if anyone knows of an application that can retrieve pictures from an iPhone's Photo Library. If you get no suitable responses there, start a thread in Mac Programming asking about writing an application for your need. I can also close this thread for you, if you want. In the end, I suspect you will probably need to jailbreak your device to get at what you want, but I could be totally wrong there.

dejo >> Thank you for your assistance. You can close this and I will start over again as you suggest.
Jailbreak is NOT an option after due consideration. Forums like this wouldnt exist if it was all jailbroken :)

Thanks again.
