We are current Xfinity Mobile customers. My wife and I each have an iPhone on the account. Every time we upgrade our phones, we purchase from Apple because frankly we trust them more and just prefer to use their app/website to make the pre-order. We always end up having issues with getting switched over from our old phones to our new ones.

We have tried just putting the old SIM card into the new phone, which works initially, but then we run into problems with our account and with cellular speeds working correctly, and wind up getting scolded by Xfinity for doing it "the wrong way" (although apparently "the right way" is to just buy the phone from them). We have tried ordering a new "BYOD" SIM card from Xfinity, putting that in the new phone, and then calling to get the number ported... that was a disaster.

We end up calling support and spending 1-2 hours (not exaggerating) on the phone while they escalate us up the chain and eventually somebody does all kinds of complex computer gymnastics (last year they had to create two "dummy" numbers, port us to those, and then port back and delete the dummy lines) to get it working properly. Surely we aren't the only people to have this problem. Any suggestions??

The last option they did has been the standard way for it to work.

There is an update in the system software that a representative can update the phone for service when you place the SIM card in the new phone(it doesn’t work all the time but most of the time). You do need to call in or go in to the store for them to do this.

Good to hear about the update to system software. I guess I will plan to call them on the OLD device with new iPhone 13 in hand, then follow whatever instructions they give me. I really hope it’s as easy as them clicking a few buttons and telling me to move the SIM card over this time around…
