I flashed this card about 5 months ago and although it works ok, It does not run@16X speed. I wanted to know if there is another rom that can address this issue.

I have tried every slot in the Mac Pro in terms of slot placement, I have also used the expansion slot utility and nothing works. I also installed the same card with the original rom in my windows box running vista and it works at the corrects speed so I know its not the card. I have included the original rom that
came with the card.

I would appreciate any suggestions or help.

uhm, maybe cause you have to select the top alternative?

Cindori

I appreciate your quick reply, but as I have said I have tried every configuration, as such if I chose the top alternative it wont boot with the card, again I have tried every slot and also every setting in the expansion slot utility
some settings in the expansion slot utility will not even allow me to boot the computer, I have to take out the XFX card and just leave the Nvidia just to boot the computer.

In addition to not being able to boot the computer depending on where the Card is physically in the computer if I change the setting in the expansion slot utility sometimes
the card is not recognized at all and the computer boots reaaaalllllyyy slow only on the Nvidia card.

Thanks Cindori,

try this

insert only old nvidia (bottom)

boot mpro

open Utility (sys/lib/coreservices)

set to top alternative

reboot

if boots fine, open util again to see settings are correct

if correct, shut down, remove nvidia, insert only 4890 (bottom slot ofc)

try boot

Cindori is refering to the first selection on the expansion card utility allowing for

8x
1x
1x
16x

Duh, I feel really dumb now lol anyways, I have tried that
awhile back and it would not boot with the XFX card in
the bottom slot by itself. I will however try it again exactly
per your instructions.

I followed your instructions and while I hear the boot chime there
is no signal to the monitor by the way my monitor is a 40 inch Samsung
1080p.

try to replug screen after boot.

also what connector is tv using?

also try put nvidia now in top slot with 4890 bottom slot. run display of nvidia and then try switch after comp booted. also screen sys profiler

Connection is DVI-HDMI I also have a 24 inch dell computer
with DVI input I will connect that as well and keep you posted

Ok I tried disconnecting the Mac Pro from the Samsung and reconnecting nothing happens I also tried it on each port on the card. I also connected the MacPro to my 24 inch Dell monitor that was connected to my Macbook Pro
and still I have no signal just a start up chime and a black screen. Do you think that it has something to do with the rom or maybe this particular card will not work at the correct speed ?

Thanks,

Side note when I use pixelmator with the stock 7300gt by itself the program runs fine and does not crash, when I use the XFX card then the computer crashes spinning beach etc.

sounds to me like card is physically broken tbh

Thanks I will go ahead and put the original rom back on the card and leave it in the windows box as it seams to work ok with the PC. Thanks for your help
I will now purchase the Apple branded ATI Card and not waste any more time with trying to hack a card to get it to work.

Thats what I get for being tight and trying to save a couple of bucks ;)
