Was wondering if anybody might be able to help, or give me some pointers on a new graphics card installation...

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that is running Yosemite perfectly (except for the 7300 GPU issue). I realise I needed to upgrade the GPU, so bought an XFX Radeon HD 6970.
I read that these cards are natively supported in Yosemite, so didn't think there would be problems. I have checked the (AMD6000Controller & AMDx3000) kexts, and the card's ID is listed in them both.

I can get the system working from a Lion HDD, but whenever I try to boot from the Yosemite HDD, it kernel panics, and just goes into a loop doing that repeatedly?

I have the old 7300 card installed in the 3rd slot, so I can check the booting progress, and Pike's boot.efi works for about half the progress bar, and then reboots as above....

Any help/ideas/solutions would be appreciated 😉

So called "support" of 69xx series is buggy as hell and these cards basically do not work in OS X despite device IDs presence in kexts. You need something from 5xxx, 68xx or 7xxx series if it has to be and AMD GPU.

Damn it, was too slow. 😱

+1 above post, get another GPU (preferably not 6xxx series as those cards won't give boot screen on an MacPro1,1).

Thx for the replies hey

Yeah it sounds like it will be less hassle to sell it and get a 7950, then...
