I predict that foldable display phones/tablets will go the same way as 3D TVs and Curved TVs. They'll be around for a while but will fizzle out of existence in a couple of years. It's a gimmick.
Looks cool, and bonus points for thinking of making a trifold.
With any folding screen though, I’d want to wait and see how durable they turn out to be before considering a purchase.
this has the practicality for someone to minimize and maximize the display on demand.
Wonder how that plastic screen would look after a couple of months, probably full och scratches due to the soft material.
That is courage! Not removing a hardware feature most people in the world still use.
Send them a mail asap! I bet they didn't think about this!
so you need two hands to unfold this? no thanks.
i dont need two hands to use my iPhone XS.Do you use two hands to hold your iPad or use your iPhone? Is it really that troublesome to use both your hands to unfold this? I doubt it is.
Apple should be all over this technology but will most likely not have the cojones.
Seen that, been there. Everyone is making these new foldable screen form factors (Samsung, now Xiaomi). And then, when Apple releases it's take on the subject, suddenly everyone will produce the same form factor as Apple and tell us that it is a "natural choice for design" and there is "no other way to do it". Apple is, in my opinion, already experimenting with foldable screens (the iPhone X and Xs and Xs Max all have a curved OLED portion inside of them). I think they are experimenting with foldable displays. After all, seeing their R&D investment I hope they are experimenting with LOTS of things... Let's see. For the time being, seeing the prototypes, I don't really feel the need for a foldable screen. But, on the other hand, I didn't need the HomePod either and yet I own one...
The horrible rippled mess of these folding screens is just not going to be popular with the general public. What we want is glass that folds without imperfections and that simply doesn't exist.
you are assuming that apple still is in the lead of anything ... apple is a bean counter company now. no sex left - they have no lead of anything. asia will take over the phone business, as samsung has done with the s8 - for some strange reason apple can still use their brand power to push people in inferior technology. that is no sustainable business model.
