XM, Sirius announce merger

As a Sirius subscriber, I don't mind. This will hopefully get me more programming options, I'm all for it.
Nah, this is real bad if you're a subscriber. Decreased competition leads to higher prices and less innovation. With two companies, they're focused on expanding market share, which tends to lead to lower prices. With one, it can afford to charge a premium. I'm surprised this would make it past regulators.

This merger is the best thing that could happen, The only reason I wanted XM was for the MLB games. Now with them joining forces I get everything I wanted in one place, Baseball and Stern. This will bring more subscribers that were on the fence and will make for better content.

...They'll make more money having 1000 subscribers at $13 a month than they would having 500 subscribers at $20 a month...

Not necessarily, it all depends on the margin. For sake of argument, if the cost of a product is 12 and they charge 13 and get 1000 buyers, that’s only $1000 profit, where as 500 at $20, would be $4000. Of course, that's just numbers for the argument. i'm sure they'll come up with something to really make themselves wealthier and keep most customers happy.

I suppose next we'll see apple merging with microsuck

But siriusly (haha) i never saw it coming, i always thought they were one of the most competitive companies out there... It's a monoply now, what's going to stop them from raising prices? Theres now no alternitive....

Good point. But yeah, they'll want to keep customers happening.

What I can see happening, is assuming this goes through and we get radios that pick up Sirius and XM, it will be $13/month (current price) for either Sirius or XM's channels, and an extra 5 bucks so to get the other. And if I can get nearly 300 channels for under 20 bucks a month, I'll be first in line to buy a new radio.

I Have Sirius, but I often find myself listening to the FM/AM dial more.

Don't know why, though...

really? i had both services for a year (XM/Sirius) cancelled the XM after the 1st year... kept the Sirius...

i have to admit i have not listened to FM/AM Radio since i bought satellite... its been well over a year!

meh. Something about satellite radio just doesn't appeal to me. it seems so bland. I like the personalities of the chicago rock station (93.1 WXRT), and my local NPR and classical stations. I seriously doubt that any Sirius or XM station has played the Hindemith Sonatas lately.

Actually, i enjoy NPR as well... something i still get to listen to on Sirius:)

FM, AM, Digital Music Player, CD Players.....there is more then enough to force XM/Sirus to keep their price down, if they want people to sign up for it
