I have the Max. With true tone on and comparing it to my ipad pro 12.9, the ipad beats it. LCD with true tone is the sweet spot. If the Ipad shifts to OLED on the ipad i’d be worried.
Apple makes gorgeous LCD panels.

I noticed my XR had a ever so slightly bluish tint to its whites straight out of the box but nothing really to complain about. Like the XS Max Tru Tone is way too aggressive for my liking so I keep it switched off.

Yes, I was in the EE shop yesterday and compared the XR straight out of the box to the XS. The difference between OLED and LCD was night and day when placed next to each other. By itself, the XR screen looked lovely however when you see the XS, the XS whites were whiter than white whereas the XR was more beige yellow. I showed the girl and said to her, 'Can you see the difference between OLED and old fashioned LCD?'.
Here in the UK, the XR is only £10 to £15 per month cheaper than the XS on a contract. Personally, I'd rather pay the extra and go for the XS and for me, it's a nicer size. The XR was way too big for my taste and i'm not a fan of aluminium.
This is what I found with my old iPhone pluses. On their own they were perfectly fine and pleasing, however once I compared it side by side with a Samsung phone with an OLED display it suddenly looked washed out and colours were much richer on the Samsung phones. However when I didn’t put them next to another phone they were perfectly fine.

Another reason why I went for the XS Max is because I wanted the most screen real estate I could possibly get
I’m a sucker for big phones too.

I take it all of these screen-elitists don’t own, or plan to own, an iPad. Can’t slum it with the horrible LCD. :)
Every device has its own use case.

I can’t get an OLED iPad and I’d rather have the iOS with an LCD display than a Samsung tablet with an OLED display.

I barely use my Mac at all. Maybe once every few months so the display on there doesn’t matter to me at all. That’s why I have an 11 inch MBA.

My phone I use everyday and it’s my primary device so I want to have the best possible display (imo).

However regarding the Xr it’s not only the display which made me not buy it.

I wanted the dual lens camera as I’d had it on the 7 plus and then the X, I wanted 3D Touch and I wanted the biggest screen possible so I went for the max. I also wanted gold but I coral would be my second choice of all the colours.

The LCD display on my 7 plus was really nice too.
