I thought you were a WUM then I noticed how often you post so I came away surprised about your situation.

I think you'll struggle keeping to 64GB, its actually less than that in real terms.

I guess you must like wasting money and making life hard for yourself?

1st world problems indeed.

What’s a WUM? And I spend far too much time on this site complaining about Apple, and then I’ll go and buy their products.

And I’m not wasting my money, because it’s a phone I’ll kee for a while. If you don’t like the current one you have then it’s not wasting money if you change to something that works better for you. My ZR has lost value but that’s to be expected?

I don’t think that at this time half way to the next generation iPhones in fall it makes sense to buy a XS Max. The new Samsung S10 shows where the development goes and the XS Max already looks dated. Investing in a Max now means that you will loose a lot of money!

Stay with your XR, its a great phone! Is has a better battery life which also means that you don’t have to replace the battery so early. The display will also last longer too with no burn in effect from OLED and you have no problems with PWM. The resolution in points is the the same as the XS Max but in a more compact phone. Halide is a great tool for portrait shots of everything and maybe Apple with implement something similar in iOS 13.

The XR is a clear winner for me and I will use it for the next years to come....

I don’t suffer from this PWM issue and I haven’t seen anywhere near enough complaints of the OLED screen burning in the screen to worry.
The Max looks dated? not sure how exactly, I’d rather then notch then samsungs annoying looking Dot on the screen. IMO the only decent phone Samsung makes is the Note.

Ha I’m just the same as you. Spend a lot of time complaining about Apple and comparing them unfavourably to the competition but carry on spending my money on their products.

I agree about qgetting the phone you want. We use our phones so much we might as well get exactly what we want.

Yes as they say it’s your personal device with you everywhere you go, we probably use our phones now more then any other piece of tech. That’s the power of the internet.

I think I’ll upgrade to the XS Max, I was going to get a new TV but with news LG are going to make 48” OLED panels in the next year or two, I’ll hold off now, I was eying up a 55” but it’s too big really for my room.
So that leaves me with funds to spend. I really need to buy a new computer at some point in my life too haha.

What color are you thinking about?

I believe in the end you will prefer the Xs max over the the xr. The xs max feels better in the hand, has a larger screen with thinner bezels and 4x4 Mimo compared with the xr.

Enjoy whatever you end up keeping.

Gah I don’t know again lol!!

I guess to me I like the form factor of the XR, bar it’s slightly chunky feeling, I like it’s 6.1” display size.

So I thought of a third option... wait until next year and buy the new XR then, because of the rumours it will have an OLED screen.

What do you guys think about that? I can probably get over 3D Touch, the main thing with that is if you want to delete text, say I want to delete all of the above... if you press down on a 3D Touch display it rapidly deletes the text, a none 3D Touch display doesn’t and seems to take for ever to do the same thing. Or am I missing something?

But an OLED screen say with a 1080P resolution would work for me.

Waiting until 2020 doesn’t mean anything based off rumors, being so much can change and we don’t know if the XR will even exist in Apples lineup at that time. The 2019 XR is still rumored to add the dual lens camera. As far as 2020 XR adding an OLED panel, maybe, but that will increase the cost of the phone, which is why it uses an LCD panel currently.

I could of got another max yesterday at a really good price, but would of still been an extra $300 on top after selling my Xr. And i don't what to go bigger again anyway.
Picking a up a X today to try the size, will probably flip it for $200 profit though.

If you can wait until September - that's probably a good call. At minimum, you'll have more options at that point. Even if you don't go for one of the new 2019 phones, at least the current (2018) models will be cheaper. But, imo, definitely don't wait with the expectation that the 2019 XR will receive an OLED display. I mean, it might...but it might not - and if that's your sole reason for waiting, there's a pretty good chance you'll end up disappointed.

Xr bluetooth strength/distance is average, drops out where my iPad 11" holds.

I haven’t had any issues with mine really. But I only use it for my car and AurPods.

I’ve played with the XS but can’t help think I’ll struggle with the text size, you can make it big but not all apps and not all web pages support it.

To be honest guys, this year Apple has thrown a spanner in the works with the XRs size. Smaller then the Max but still with that bigger screen. And with Apple’s really strange decision to now allow zoomed screen mode on the XS, only the XR and Max, it confounds it further.

I’m going to check out the new iPad Mini once it’s out though.

I meant the Xr drops out first v my 11" iPad with my Bose QC3511 when i walk away from them.

I use zoomed to do you think it makes that much of a difference, havnt really compared the differences?

My advice would be to wait for the next Max to come out and buy this years at a dropped price. If you are happy paying £963 for a mobile phone then that’s great, but I could put up with a few less features considering the XR is perhaps the best new iPhone for what you get I would say. This is why the 8+ for me was a no brainer for what it offered and I paid £640 after cash back. I’m sure the Max is a great phone though and if you really need it now and regret your purchase, probably best to sell the XR while it’s still a current phone as you’ll get more for it.

Ok, first i have heard of any shadow issue with Xr, not seeing it myself.

No shadow issue on my XR as well. Seems like an isolated issue otherwise we would have a dozen threads opened on MR covering this ad nauseam.

Ok, so I’m after some advice. I’ve had my XR 128GB since launch. It’s a nice phone, but some things annoy me about it, I had a 6S and used 3D Touch a lot, I have been missing it on the XR.
And the shadow you get around the edge of the screen annoys me, particularly around the notch on sites like this one, it’s due to the manufacturing process of the display as I understand.
And that I can’t take portrait photos of my dog.

So I’ve been considering changing to a Max. My only concern is jumping to an even bigger device, however as much as I do love the small phones, having used a big screen phone now it really is very useful. So I’d want a Max.

I could only afford the 64GB one, but currently I’ve only used 48GB of my XR’s 128GB and can remove some games I don’t play to increase that.

Has anyone else gone from the XR to the Max, if so why did you do so and how was the experience?

I can get a discount on it from a family members work. Only about £137 but better then nothing.

Would I be mad to do this, or would I be happier? I actually don’t see me wanting to upgrade again for a while as to me, this years iPhones are pretty much perfect.

So what would you do?
Both user. I like how the xr feels. Max is unwieldy but I feel obligated to use the max from time to time given the cost lol

Yeah I think about the cost, currently Music magpie will pay £500 for the XR, I just wonder how much that will drop by the time the XS goes on sale?
I think if the XR had an OLED that would be best?
But then I see so many people with an X or XS and think perhaps I should have gone small haha.. if the camera upgrade they made to the XR and XS wasn’t so big I would have bought an X.

Just thinking what I want and what my priorities are, also if Apple do ditch 3D Touch then they may improve the haptic system to match its functionality?

I’ve never been a fan of big phones, but I wanted an upgrade from the 4.8” size, the XR is a nice half way house and offers a big enough screen with a size you can get used too that’s smaller then the Max or Plus.
If it was just a bit thinner and had an OLED that would help me I think. Maybe I’ll wait it out for the moment. I really want to see what the new iPad Mini is like, my iPad Pro is a bit broken now, it has a dead spot in the screen that doesn’t detect touches so well.

I’m not the only one with it trust me, it’s subtle though. Not obvious in your face.

I had two XS Max. I sold one for a XR. I actually prefer the XR in use. Smaller form factor, better battery, and every feature I use is in it.

I don’t use the telephoto lens, I don’t use 3D Touch, hell, I think I actually prefer the LCD screen of the XR. There are people who would be better served by the XS, and there are people who would be better served by the XR. I think that the XR is probably the best choice for 90%+ of consumers.

My experience was direct opposite, and I think others had mentioned something similar, where the Max actually feels more balanced, because of the all-glass design, considering with the Plus models were using aluminum, the weight varied because of where the internals/battery was located.

Using the iPhone 7 Plus as an example, [Which was the last iPhone to use the 7000 series aluminum], that felt heavier because of the unbalanced distribution of the weight compared to the all glass design on the Max.

I could never give up 3D Touch voluntarily. That alone with LCD would keep me from getting the Xr.

We have 6 months until the new iPhone. I know I wouldn't want to wait until then.

You sound like you know the Max is for you and you're in a position to get it... Why deprive yourself!? I'm sure you work hard for your money, so why not treat yourself!?

I LOVE MY Xs Max!!! Will be keeping for 3 years at least, as I paid full price upfront for it. Tired of being in payment perpetuity with carriers.

DO IT!!!

Haha I don’t know if it is for me now though.
I kinda like the XR size, apart from its chunky thickness. I suspect this year the XR will get dual cameras, maybe go thinner, and next year it’ll get an OLED screen. And Apple will ditch 3D Touch. So I’m now thinking I should perhaps wait, keep the XR and upgrade in a couple of years when it’ll be worth it more. I think overall an OLED would make it more perfect then 3D Touch, which although I kiss isn’t the be all and end all.

Plus I also like the new iPad Pros and the new Apple Watch and the Surfacebook 2 13”, all devices I’ve seen and rather like haha!!.. I actually need a new computer so would do well to save up for that, bit underwhelmed by the iMac updates.

IPad's don't even seem to exist for me. They seem redundant now.

Those of us who enjoy viewing content on a bigger screen with easier typing and navigation around a device still have a need for an iPad. I’ve got an 8+ but it’s still not big enough to compensate for an iPad for me. Not to mention they are very good if you’ve got children.

The iPad is still a relevant device today, and not so much necessarily just for the consumer market, but also for the education market that really has gravitated towards the iPad. I think larger iPhones have taken away from the iPad somewhat, because consumers are resorting to using their iPhones more, being that they’re kind of the same thing being a media device with the iPhone and iPad. I think for those who really do appreciate the iPad, want the mobility to view larger content, such as movies, sketching or are any productivity with work related.

Haha having seen the new iPad Pro I want one!! I need a new computer but that doesn’t mean I don’t want a tablet. Until my 9.7” Pro had its issue I used it a LOT.
[doublepost=1553086527][/doublepost]I would say having been testing different cellular services these last few days meant using my XR and 6S together, I sure appreciate and see the difference and improvement on the XR screen! Much more colourful.
