my partner has the xr 64gb red edition ( just 12months old )
a few moths ago i noticed her voice was fading in and out at times. best way to explain it is imagine the phone was switching from the front mic to the back mic and back.
took it in to genius bar, they ran tests and said they could not find any issues.
was told to try a different sim. we decided to change networks, but the issue continued, a month later we tried another network , but tat was also same.
rang apple and was told to update firmware, and see if the call was same using headset.
headset was perfect ,so i rang them back and they booked me into the genius bar again.
he ran same tests and found nothing, so he decided to change the handset, it was out of warranty but they honoured it.
sadly this new unit appears to have the same issue
any ideas what to do next
 
Have you tried doing a voice recording to test the mic?
no, but this is a replacement handset and seems to be suffering from the same problem.
but i will try that , as i mentioned the 1st handset worked fine with the headset
 
This was an issue with my iPhone X when I had it. No one could figure it out either, including myself. Did everything I could. No answer or solution.
