XS models have 4x4 MIMO and Gigabit LTE. That will breathe some longevity into the phone if you tend to keep your phones longer.

XS phones are also HDR. If you watch a lot of video content on your phone that could add some value.

Dual SIM can be huge too for those with the need for multiple lines.

Some pro XS thoughts ...

When I got the xr to test I couldn’t go back to a small degree of difference. That a coupled with inability to return the max made me stay with my September 21 purchase. If I waited, did it but the Max, I would’ve been perfectly happy with the xr

I’ve always been a “flagship” model iPhone owner and after research, I’ve settle for the XR. It’s not even about the cost but it’s about the value. I don’t feel like I get the same value with the max for all that extra cost. It’s just my preference

The XR is dual sim as well.

I guess the question is how much of a difference will the 4x4 and Gigabit LTE make in the next three years considering the carriers can't even get their act together now.

I recently compared the XR and Max and have to say side by side I couldn’t see anything on the Max that would encourage me to spend a small fortune on it or £450 more. The screens were similar and so was the speed and both felt premium enough. The Max felt like a difficult phone to promote when you can get a phone so close and so much cheaper to me.

Wasn’t a matter of justifying cost to me. I got the XS Max just because of the extra features...to me, 128GB added space (mid-range option), better pixel density (subjective), camera, and 1GB more of RAM (hate refreshing apps when you’re trying to go back to it after some time)was worth it.

Haha, I have seen my XR pull 100+ Mbps on LTE. Not fast enough for mobile? Don’t get this argument about faster LTE speed on a mobile device unless that’s the only internet connection.

I just tested my T-Mobile XR from home and got 203 down and 36 up. Better than my cable internet when on WiFi which usually gets 175 down and 12 up!

I think the $350+tax would be more noticeable if everyone had to buy phones out right instead of financing it for 2-3 years. I know my poor friends that live paycheck to paycheck would never be able to afford a Max up front. To them, it’s “only” $10-$15 a month more for a “flagship” phone, which is a no brainer for them.

How much more do we need on a mobile, right? At least for the foreseeable future.

Agreed. I'd even think 20 down and 5 up is plenty fast for a cell phone. But I'll take the higher speeds at home of course :)
