  • In the App Store - Updates tab, I can no longer Swipe down and let go down to see new updates
  • In Google Maps, I can’t swipe up to scroll down and see an entry’s reviews or details.
  • I can no longer power off. When I press the 2 buttons to bring up the power off screen, I can NOT swipe right on the Power Off thing at the top.
  • When system froze and I could not power off, I had to do a backup then a restore to get it to unfreeze. ITunes would backup even though it was stuck on that power off screen thankfully.
I’m starting on bunch of domestic and international travel for work. Terrible timing.
my old iPhone X running same (latest) version of iOS does not have this problem at all.

It feels like my iPhone XS (512gb)’s screen sensor is failing.

I’ve never had this big of a hardware problem with any iPhone i’ve ever purchased, and I purchase every year.

Advice?

This seems like a slightly different problem from that other problem in the thread about stuttering.

Do you have an Apple store nearby? I would go and see if they can shed some light on a solution. Or, I would back up your phone and set it up as new and see if that helps.

You can still power off in the Settings app.

I agree with your assessment. It seems like a hardware failure. Unfortunately, you'll have to get it fixed.

If things freeze you can usually reset the device rather than power it off.

That aside, sounds like there might be some hardware related issues with the device and contacting Apple about it might be the best thing to do.

So odd. When in Gmail, I can swipe right.

You can still power off in the Settings app.

Just tried. Settings --> General --> Shutdown

But here, on this screen, I can NOT swipe right on this top thing:

If I finish packing in time tomorrow before my flight I'll go to Apple Store. PITA.

And just like that, it started working perfectly.

Really odd.

yes. The Belkin Screen protector that was installed at purchase at the apple store.
Could be the protector. Is the glass and your fingers clean? Is your environment extremely humid? Or extremely cold?
