Has anyone tried replacing the back of the iPhone X Max?
Had mine since launch, and this week somehow the back was cracked. It’s been in my Spiegen clear silicon case, but still cracked. :(

I do have applecare, but I never had to process a claim. What is the process, and how much would the cost be?

If you have AppleCare+, it will cost you $99. Take it to Apple and they will handle it.

You do not remember how it got damaged?

AC+ will make right again. Backup first as they might just replace the phone with a refurb.

If you have AppleCare+, the cost is $99 plus tax. They will replace your entire phone so be sure to back it up before you head to the store.

If you do not have AppleCare+ (just warranty), then unfortunately it'll be something around $529 plus tax.

Definitely let Apple replace the phone. The rear camera housing is secured under the glass and can’t be removed to replace the glass with out damage to the way the housing is mounted..

Good thing you do have AppleCare. It cost a pretty penny to replace the glass.

Might want to call and make an appointment, tis the season and even though many here think Apple is near going out of business, it was packed today when I went by.

What you mean Apple is still in business?! Can’t be

I dropped the phone a few times. But it was always in the case, but cracked none the less.

That $0.50 clear case you have offers no protection against drops, especially on the corners. If you want a clear case, get one that has thicker padded corners.

You made me LOL with that comment. That’s what it seems like on these forums “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!” Truth is they’re probably better off now

I don’t think his case is $0.50. It’s made by Spigen so I feel like it’s probably a $20 case. Nonetheless I understand what you’re saying.

Personally I have AppleCare+ because I don’t use a case. Never have and never will.

This is the first time I've heard someone say products by Spigen are garbage? Who knew...
I've used Spigen cases and glass protectors since the iphone 6+ days(4th phone now), and never had issue with them. I also had Applecare+ for all those phones, and never had to file a claim. Guess there is a first for everything.

From your picture seems something hit the back of in the middle. Most cases only protect corners and edges. Don't forget plastic when hit will indent. Unless there is padding behind that space (there isn't), the plastic will flex and it will hit the glass.

Spigen cases are $0.50 to $2 cases purchased on AliExpress with distribution and marketing costs tacked on. The rest is pure profit. Unlike cases from Pelican or OtterBox for example, Spigen is no different in design from any other generic brand. Even the $0.79 cases on AliExpress give you padded corners.

Worst of all, it gives owners a false sense of protection spending $20 on a piece TPU worth $0.50.

If you purchase it with a CC...see if there any warranty about drop phones? I know for Amex they offer first 60 days lost or damage repair for free. Save your AC for another day.

These phones and the repair costs are so expensive, I literally had a nightmare last night about my XS Max cracking haha! In my dreams, I walked into a room to see that my naked phone vibrated off the desk and shattered front and back. So glad when I woke up from that nightmare because I don’t have AppleCare+. Good thing you do!!

Lol I just cracked the back of my phone too. Should I buy apple care plus before taking it to the store? Not trying to pay $600

I believe it is $99 and you get a new phone: Do you have an Apple store near you? That’s the easiest way to deal with it. Otherwise call Apple on the number in your phone and they will handle it.

Thought I'll give an update to my iphone. Finally had the chance to bring it in to an Apple store. I made the appointment on their website, and got to the store. They took a look at the phone, did their thing on their ipads....
about 15 minutes later I walked out with a new replacement phone for $129 CDN plus taxes. If I didn't have AppleCare, the replacement would've been $779 CDN plus taxes.
Lesson learn, protect those backs or have Applecare.

I heard they actually replace the whole and that seems true here. Why they would design it in a way that costs them so much more effort and money is beyond me.

I use my CR without a case and don’t have AppleCare. Living on the the edge.

That’s where saying “AppleCare+ has your back” comes from. :D
