Hi All,

I am a bit thick about these things so please bear with me! I want to get a glass camera lens protector for the iPhone XS Max but see there are 4 different options/versions & do not know why & which to get or is the best type - one is all solid & the other three have differing openings in them - please see images attached - which one is the best & the one to get please of numbers 1 - 4?

Many Thanks!

If you really want to go with one, go with the first one as it has the most coverage.

I’d advise you against them, they are plastic not glass (I know they say it’s glass…), scratch easily and affect image quality.

If you want some protection for the camera cover, use a dbrand skin on it. It leaves the aperture open, while adds a layer of protection for the rest of the glass so if it falls flat on the lens cover, there is some impact absorption.

I know nothing about them or how good they are - I just want to protect the camera against damage & expensive repair bills or lose use of the camera - thanks for letting me know that they are pretty crap then - I just assumed they might protect the camera & everyone would be using something to protect the lens/camera area!

I will look into the D-Brand skin you mentioned (is that what you use?) but do not think it will be available in the UK so might have to find a substitute!

Why would you put glass over a sapphire lens cover?

I did say I was thick about these things! I guess it's a bad idea then so I will not do it - like I said above, just wanted to try & mitigate against damage to the camera - how do you protect yours?

Many Thanks!

The sapphire crystal blend on the camera lens cover is scratch resistant but unfortunately it is a common thing that those crack, since they are exposed.

I use a decent case and the skin. First the case is going to take the hit, the camera is recessed. Then if the surface is not flat, there is another chance that the skin will take the hit and absorb some impact.

If I’m that unfortunate that something will directly impact on the centre of the camera lens cover then it will crack.

I’ve never dropped my phone though.

I don’t have anything on it. Never have. A case prevents it from being in contact with anything and it being sapphire means scratching it is seriously difficult.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know - just out of interest, is it true that Sapphire Glass is extremely scratch resistant but shatters easily upon impact?

I ask as I saw some very expensive screen protectors made out of Sapphire Glass!

Many Thanks!

Sapphire is very hard. It can only be scratched by diamond. It is quite brittle though so it does shatter.
Neither has ever happened to me and I don’t ever worry about it. Get a case, protect the back glass - its much more fragile and waaay more expensive to repair.
