Sorry if this has been asked before but has anyone thought hard about upgrading to a latest iPhone who presently uses a 6S? I have a milestone birthday coming up and my wife said she would buy me a new phone. Whist that is a great offer, is it worth it from a practical point of view. I hate wasting money. My 6S does all I ever need albeit on a 3 year old phone. I wonder how long the 6S will be supported, especially given I also have a series 3 watch.
Your comments would be helpful.

Read the bolded in your post. I don’t think the XS would be for you, given that your 6S does everything you ‘need it to’, if you were to upgrade, have you considered the XR? Its Significantly cheaper under the iPhone XS, it offers Face ID, similar form factor and wireless charging with the same processor as the XS. It Appears like the XS is not for given your iPhone considerations and it’s Apples most expensive device

For your situation I'd say X would be perfect.

I’ve had the battery replaced (for free) in the 6S, but I have to say it still doesn’t last a full day and I have to recharge it mid-afternoon. Cynically, I wonder if Apple did indeed replace the battery or did some other tweak to the phone?

As regards the XR, I don’t think I would like how big it is. I’m a minimal sort of person, that’s why I wondered about the XS as it’s nearer the same size as the 6S.

Have you handled the iPhone XS? Perhaps you should go to an Apple store and physically see the XR and XS to make your own decision that way, if you’re basing on size.

The result will be, it’s really not that much bigger and the screen is huge.
I’m take the Xs in 64 space gray

The OP mentioned they were budget conscious and their 6s ‘Did everything they need it to’, which the XR would be significantly cheaper. Also, it’s my opinion that the OP doesn’t necessarily want to upgrade, but they’re just looking to do so because it was offered, but is it completely practical in their situation given their basic iPhone usage with the 6S? I don’t think so. I think the XS would be more than a Phone they need, where the XR might be more practical given its very similar, if the OP can adjust to the size.

Additionally, I don’t think the OP knows what they want at all, given that their post is rather vague what they would even appreciate about the XS , which is why I suggested they compare the XS and XR in the store to make a further decision for sizes.

Heard the same story first hand so many times and the result was usually an X family or an 8.
People get tired of their phones.
I have no doubt the OP will have a new phone in their hands.
If they can still find a X that is the way to go

I’m in similar situation but think the Xs costs too much. Battery life is biggest problem on my 6s, but a 7 or 8 wont give me more abilities than my current phone except speed so I am going to check out the Xr which has better battery life. Does the Xs have significantly better battery then the 7 or 8 models?

I took my mint 6S+ for the $29 battery replacement a few weeks ago and they broke my camera. So they replaced it with a refurb w/90 day warranty. So I had a new/refurb with a new battery but still decided to buy the TenR and trade my 6S+. 3 years is long enough. Wasted $29-oh well. I just bought a new Series 1. TenR has great battery life and will be supported longer.Accept your wife's generous offer!

Wow, you mustn’t use your phone for much storage. I couldn’t possibly consider less than 256GB. I’d urge anyone to get a 256GB minimum.
I'd personally advise anyone not to purchase more memory than they need.

I upgraded to the X from the 6S because of peer pressure, but tbh I’m so glad I did because I do enjoy it a lot more.

The 6S did everything I needed and I absolutely fell in love with that phone. It had sentimental value for me too.

But now I couldn’t be happier with my X. I don’t know how I lived without my X. This thing is simply incredible.

Do I feel like I wasted my money? Not at all. Not for me. But as they say, your mileage may vary. You may or may not like it if you decide to get a new phone.

If size is an issue, go to the store and check out the 8, XR and XS. If the XS is your sweet spot, but you find it too expensive, go get an X. All three phones are significant upgrades over the 6S.
[doublepost=1540112214][/doublepost]Of course the XR will only come to stores by Oct. 26th.

I also upgraded from a 6S to an XS. I loved my 6S but the reason I upgraded were because although I changed the battery earlier in the year, the battery was struggling to get through the day. Also the speaker was great and I wanted better quality pictures and videos.
I have no problems with Face ID and actually prefer it 95% of the time. The battery life and screen is amazing. I also prefer not having the home button. I did find it heavy at first but after 4/5 days I got use to it and am really happy. If you do decide to accept the gift I hope you enjoy it as well.
