What is your prediction on which models will be back ordered the quickest on pre-order night?

I’m thinking Xs And Xs Max Gold will go first. Followed by the rest of the Max lineup

I’d guess that all of the Xs Max models will have their shipping dates slip pretty quickly - I’d say October ship dates by 7 am or so. I won’t be surprised if you can pre-order the regular Xs for launch day delivery well into the weekend. Of course, I won’t be taking any chances with the Silver 256 GB Xs I’m planning to preorder and will be setting my alarm to wake up and get my order in.

I'm gonna go with Gold 256 for both Xs and Max as the most popular. Also I'm sure the Apple Store app will do its usual "crash crash crash" until it finally comes up and phones are already shipping 5 weeks out, like it's done the past couple of years.

I'm "preapproved" again just like last year, but because of the store app coming up late last year, I wasn't able to get a phone until about a week after launch despite being ready before midnight on preorder night. Fingers crossed it goes more smoothly this year.

I seriously doubt any of the phones for those crazy prices will sell out. Look at the X when it came out. They didn't sell out either.

Now the Xs R I think may sell out. It's new, its a lower model but has everything people need.

This. Last years X was supposed to sell out in seconds. Plus judging by the comments on MacRumors, nobody is buying this year's models.

This is what I’m hoping for. I preordered both the 8 plus and the X last year. Both were so easy. No hang ups. No questions on when or if I’m getting the phone. Just the way it should be. Hoping for the same this year.

Given the number of countries that are on the September 14 pre order list and the fact they have been at the OLED game for almost a year I don't anticipate it will be an issue for any of the OLED models.

Haha every year people say something like this and every year is a preorder nightmare. Many of the naysayers who are “disappointed” are up at 11:30pm PST jabbing their refresh key with the rest of us. Apple is the master of hype. I expect that even if the max doesn’t sell out within minutes it will be a clusterf—-

I think Apple will have adequate stock like they did last year for the iPhone X and Max. Every year, it seems they somewhat are achieving more stock with their suppliers, but I think the real unknown will be the XR, in October, but it should be interesting to see how pre-orders bode.

S Cycles tend to fair a little better than the new hardware release in terms of yields. There were Max type device rumors almost right after the X came out so I think the supply side issues would be more mitigated. Guessing at demand and preference is anyone's guess.

I also don’t put it past Apple to intentionally limit production of certain models to increase the appearance that the new iPhones are in high demand. It creates a buzz in the press. If all of the models have launch day delivery available all day Friday and into the weekend, the press will start to speculate that maybe Apple has missed with these new models and the markets will not react favorably.

My best guess is that the new model and new color will sell that fastest: Gold XS Max

I also think that will be followed by the Gold XS in terms of popularity.

The Gold XS Max is the the one that I am interested in, but I won't place my order for one until I can actually see and hold it in person.

Until then, my SG iPhone X will work just fine; probably even better on iOS 12.

X was sold out within 15mins depending on model variant.

“In the 15 minutes between me completing my order and the confirmation email dropping in my Inbox, iPhone X stock went from being delivered next week to an expected ship date of 5-6 weeks.”

In my opinion, only the Gold models (XS and XS Max) will have shipping times slip after a few hours. I would bet the remaining models will be available for people that want them.

Look at last year. There was supposedly "supply constraints" with the X. All the people I know who wanted one got their preorder in and received on release day. Was no way as scarce as people made them out to be. No word/peep about constraints this year, plus I think the large majority of people will wait for XR.

On the upgrade plans I think you're only talking about $5-$10 more per month so I think price will be a consideration only if people want the 512GB Max which is crazy priced :)

If I had to take a guess the First Model to go on backorder will be the 256gb Xs Max.
I was just looking to see if I could get by with the 64GB... maybe not

Can't beleive it, quick search and I could re cycle my i phone 8 via 3rd party site-and pay off contract (I'm only a few months into 24mths contract)- nice phone though xs could become reality much sooner than I thought.

I don't see these selling out super fast. The gold max will most likely sell out the quickest but anyone ordering right at midnight will have no problem getting what they want on release day.
