hey people.

So, I’m back to XS. I returned the XR to Walmart after discovering that the WiFi speeds where always 50% slower than XS and 6s.
I had the phones set in the same manner with the same apps on all 3 of them.

All phones were in cases as well.

I set the same servers in speedtest app and every single time the XR was behind.
My old 6s and new XS were almost identical. The XR was always 50% slower in numbers. I then decided take off the case and that seemed to help about 25% to boost the speed BUT still behind.

I wanted the XR but got buyer remorse with the WiFi speeds. Unfortunately didn’t have more than one ATT SIM cards to test that and didn’t feel like swapping it from phone to phone.

Walmart return was nightmare but after they figured out how to do it, I was walking away with new iPhone XS and the $300 gift card made it easier to deal with the price difference lol.

After checking my new XS, I found out it was produced in first week of November in China.
The phone I used for testing was from apple store and made in beginning of September. That one was returned to apple as well, due to better deal from Walmart.

I’m happy now and don’t see any flaws with this XS. The one from Apple store would drop sometimes to 4G and needed to be toggle back to LTE.

What you described about the WiFi doesn’t make sense unless there was some other factor you did not account for. Some possibilities off the top of my head include :

1) the Xr you had was defective
2) something else was different about the WiFi settings/connection on the Xr, just because they were in the same location doesn’t mean the test was equal. e.g. what band or SSID was each phone on? What were the router settings?
3) you did not perform the test enough times to get a good average of data points
4) what other internet traffic was potentially taking place on your home network, or on the phone itself, at the time of each test?

I had a max that was always a quarter the speed of anything else on Wifi...and the reception was terrible. Two replacements later and I have a good one.

I just checked my kid’s XR and his XR is behaving like my bad max phones. On cellular data it is consistently 1/4 the speed. We did 30 speed tests while walking around near UCLA...and each time the XR was about 1/4 the speed. My Max was between 16-20 and the other was 4-5. Both on the same service etc and we held them next to each other. Cycled the data on and off a bunch of times. I think some of the new phones just aren’t working as well! Going to make an apt for the XR. The XR and my original max phone shad to be cycled off a lot or else they stay on no service or 4g when there is lte.

1.) perhaps
2.) WiFi settings were same like they always are. Turned off everything using WiFi and used the same WiFi for all 3 phones. All 3 phones where backed up from the same apple account with the same settings and apps.
3.) performed the test about 20 times, starting from different phones, with and without cases.
4.) no internet traffic. Just the phones with the speedtest app ON.

I’m using this website to check production week of my iphones: https://sndeep.info/en

The one I have now (XS) from Walmart is the youngest one I got so far. Produced in first week of November and so far so good.
No defects and LTE drops.
