I am trying to set up an Mac OS X 10.4 XServe to be a web server. I have never done this before and am in desperate need of help in setting up php and mysql so I can then install Joomla. The server does have an external IP that can be reached just fine from the web. THe problem is when sitting at the server itself and i type in http://localhost I get the cannot find server error message.

I am a beginner and need to be babystepped through getting this set up. I'm in dire need of your help.

The same only different?

I don't want to hijack this thread I just need some help.

I too am having a problem with the localhost address. When I use the localhost location I cannot connect. However, when I use 127.0.0.1, I will connect. This is on a brand new xserve running default for the most part. I am also having a problem when migrating an existing site to the new xserve.

I cannot access the administrator back-end because of non matching username and password. The user name and password are successful on the original shared hosting joomla site. Used joomlapack to archive site, Used kickstart to install on xserve.

I am wondering if this could be caused by server setting(s)?

Not an experienced Server person, just a web pro.
