xvid to DVDR?

I have to convert PAL xvid files to NTSC for DVD-Video playback on my DVD Player. Does Toast do this well?
 
Pardon my total ignorance here, but what encoding do standard dvd players play 100%. I'm trying to burn a number of tv episodes in xvid to something a standalone dvd player will play for certain.
 
MPEG-2 is the format of standard DVDs. All DVD players will play video in this format. iDVD encodes DVDs in MPEG-2.
