I have been receiving my Yahoo mail on my iPhone for months without any hiccups. Today, I decided to change my email password to a more secure one. I put in the new one on the iphone but got a pop up error 'authentication failed'. Tried a few times - on wifi and 3g - to no avail. Tried reverting to the previous password - no go. It seems that the iphone is stuck on an 8 character password (my old password was 6; the new one longer than 8). I even tried using the itunes 'override email settings' function which gave an 'incorrect username and password' error. Again tried to put in the correct one but got the authentication failed message.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
E

J have an eleven-keys psw. on one of my mail accounts and in the 'Settings','Mail','Accounts' sub-menu j get displayed only nine,so j don't think seeing eight 'spots' on the psw. space should bother you. When j change my yahoo mail psw. what j do is go back to the 'setting' section j already mentioned, erase the old psw. and put in the new one;then j press 'Mail' at the top left corner to make sure it fitted in. At times that way does not work so j delete my account and set up a new one,by both using the set up wizard or even manually by using the 'Add Account' tool. This way(s) helped me to use a new psw. everytime j changed it on my Yahoo mail accounts on the iphone. Not sure if this can help you at all but j thought it might!

So I have no good reason for this but Yahoo mail now works on the iphone. I didn't do anything differently. Oh well...
Thanks for the suggestions.

I ran into this problem yesterday while I was helping a friend set her Yahoo account up. I will see if she wants to try setting her password to something shorter. She currently has a 10 digit password. eoren1 how many digits did you end up using?

Change password solution

OK this problem was really bugging me too.

Solution:
go into settings>mail,contacts,calendars

select the yahoo account
enter the new/updated password (you will already have set on a normal computer)
now flick the account on/off switch to off position
hit the back button marked mail (top left)
when it returns to the accounts screen it will start to authenticate and will return a check/tick sign

once done now go back into the yahoo account and turn it back on.

Job done. Silly that this happens though!!
