My avatars started working again a month or two ago. The only thing I noticed is that it didn't start working again until I logged on using my Macbook Pro instead of my PowerMac. Then it worked on both. I also noticed that on my Dell "Hackintosh" that it's showing the "Icon" avatar I set up on that machine before the photo one started working again, whereas I get the photo one on my MBP and PowerMac as well as my Windows machine.

same problem

I tried removing the plists of yahoo and tried restarting it, but no use.. I think, i will report it today..

A suggested fix

This seems to work for me at least...

Change to the desired picture.
Close Yahoo messenger and look in your Library Folder (On Lion you must hold down Option when you visit the Go menu in Finder to see it). Inside Library, go to Caches then go to com.yahoo.messenger3 and delete the Cache.db file.

Reopen Messenger and your new picture should show.
You may need to redo this again if you change picture and it won't cooperate.

For me, the login pictue I see when signing in is still wrong but the picture in Messenger is ok.

Can you explain that more thoroughly please? thanks in advance

I wonder how many more years Yahoo Messenger will be stuck at BETA 3.0....

It's pretty darn reliable as a messenger goes, IMO. They could at least pull it out of beta (so more Mac users update that don't trust beta ware) even if they have no plans to update the Mac version again.
