I just visited cnn.com and their search was always "Powered by Google" but now..... it's "Powered by Yahoo!"

Has Yahoo! persuaded cnn.com to switch and others too?

Yahoo is definitely stepping up to the plate against Google right now, but Yahoo suffers from years of mismanagement and poor results... I don't expect they'll hurt google's appeal. Yahoo has less comprehensive search results and poor advertising techniques compared to google. They might convince a few companies to switch, but I don't think it'll do much damage.

I certainly hope that Google will remain strong. The search results are always very adequate for my needs. I wonder how much it cost Yahoo to get the CNN account?

I love google, but I have SBC/Yahoo DSL and I must say that the Yahoo search system has gotten MUCh better.
I still use Google first as its so easy with Safari, but when I do not find what I need right away, I will often use Yahoo.com or Alltheweb as my backups.
Between Yahoo, Google and Alltheweb I can find whatever I am looking for.

I think if Yahoo plays the cards right, they can force Google to watch their backs and innovate a bit better. It gets lonely at the top and we need some competition to liven technologies up a bit.

I've been a Yahoo member since 1998, but I use Google for searching. Mostly just because it's in all of the browser toolbars now. Yahoo's really been campaigning against Google, first with the increased mail storage (that was cool :)) and now other sites.

Yahoo! is the Microsoft of search engines. Bloated and aesthetically unappealing. The main Yahoo! page is an ugly jumble of tiny text, the result of a company that clearly has no idea what to do since it is just too big.

Google, on the other hand, is the Apple of search engines. Clean and simple, focusing on getting the results to the customers instead of trying to sell to them in any way possible. The main Google page shows just that - they are focused on their customers, not their money.

It's your choice :)

BT (British Telecom) and Yahoo do a broadband package called (funnily enough) BTYahoo! it is BT ADSL with Yahoo Mail services, its quite good for the spam filters, but no where near as good as BT's mail services.

Just a gimmick i suspect.

Absolutely right... I always go to Google first because there is no clutter, not distractions. You hit the nail on the head.
