I've notice that since the recent update to the Yahoo Weather App, my location services icon is constantly on. This is most likely a bug that will be fixed soon, but in the mean time it's unnecessarily draining the battery. I'd suggest deleting the app until it's fixed.

To add insult to injury, this version also introduced ads to the app. With all the weather app options, it's hard to understand why Yahoo would clutter theirs with annoying ads, although I'm sure the answer is obviously for revenue. Not sure I'll reinstall even if the GPS bug does get fixed, which is ashame since I've used the app probably since I got my first iPhone, the 3gs.

yeah, i've noticed it too, very annoying.. You could disable the gps permission for the app from the settings, and add your city manually.

I don't think the widget will work when it's configured like that (at least it didn't last time I tried it like that).

Haven't tried putting in my home city manually before. May try that later.

But yeah, since their last update, I also have had it not letting go of location services for whatever reason. I have since disabled location services for it.

Too bad, since it was my favorite weather app. Hopefully they will fix (or unfix it as the case may be) with their next update.

I'm having great performance from Yahoo weather app. It's the best of six different weather apps I use. Traveling a lot and enjoying more than just one weather app allows me to compare. I've used them separately, in pairs and all at once, just to see how they impact battery life.

The latest rev of Yahoo is actually very efficient. Considering my phone gets used a lot as I travel, I'm pleased with overall battery life. If only I could say the same for iOS 8. It's dreadful.

The good news is Apple can't make it any worse, the next upgrade or by version iOS 9 odds are in Apple's favor.

On their last update, it looks like Yahoo Weather fixed the location services being accessed all the time. It actually lets go of it now -- at least on my phone.

So will go back to it. Even though Weather Underground does have a fine weather app as well.
