Yamaha PSR-270 MIDI problem

I've got a new brand new IMAC which won't recognize my PSR-270 keyboard. I'm hooked up with a Yamaha UX16 adapter and downloaded the latest driver form Yamaha. When I start the IMAC the power light in the UX16 lights for a moment then goes out.

Any advice will be used to stifle the urge to heave equipment out the window.😡
