Well, at least you're realistic.

At first I believed I lost my phone but more than likely it was stolen. I was in a large crowd and it was probably taken by someone, along with my wallet. If I lost the phone, it wouldn't have been turned off, right after I lost it trying to call.

this kind of sucks now.

Soooo, you lost your iPhone, the receipt, and your wallet at the same time.

I don't know when I lost my receipt, but yes, I lost my phone and wallet at the same time, which is also why I'm almost certain they were stolen. It was at one moment, and they were both in opposite pockets.

Also thanks very much for the input, but we already discussed that I purchased the phone with a visa debit card, so that most likely won't work, even less without the receipt...

shouldn't you be more concerned about losing your wallet? Identity theft, etc...
''
at this point not really. All I had was a debit card and 40 in cash, and my lisence, which will be surrendered too

so $40 and a now canceled debit card vs. a $600 phone. ugh

I lost my iPhone 4 after 12 days. Fell out of my pocket in a cab. I didn't install mobile me beforehand, but I was insured by AMEX platinum so I got my $199 back at least.

If you lost your phone you are still stuck with the 2 year contract for nothing. This is because AT&T says that the 30-day "buyers remorse" only applies if you return the equipment. However, the contract is a little ambiguous in this regard.

I tried to call AT&T many times about this and they still won't cancel my contract even though it's still within the 30-day return period. The other problem is they told me that if I buy another iphone on the same account at discount, that's another contract and they won't cancel the first one. So if you need to cancel service for any reason within the next two years, that's TWO early termination fees you gotta pay ($750 - ouch).

Watch out for this!

Obviously they won't cancel your contract and let u keep the phone if it's under 30 days and they won't give you another subsidy until 18 months later. That's how all wireless providers work when it comes to subsidies and contract.

Although that's the truth, it's not economically prudent for AT&T to do this. I would buy another phone right now if this stipulation weren't preventing me. I thought the idea was to sell more phones.

No, AT&T is not about selling phones. They're mostly about getting more subscribers tied into a 2 year contract.
They're a service provider not in the business just selling phones.

No they wouldn't because that would be insurance fraud, which is a federal offense.

To the OP, hard to believe that you lost your phone AND the receipt unless they were together. Are you really that careless? Expensive lesson!

The majority of people are too dumb to know that. :D
