Oh man. It’s almost mid January so I was going to give the screen lottery a try on the 12 Pro Max since I still really need a new phone and I got burned by the launch PM I bought. I see in this thread the warm screen is still an issue and they still haven’t even fixed the raised blacks. Pathetic. I guess I’ll keep waiting.

I probably would have bought an 11 Pro Max but I can’t find them anywhere. Best Buy only has Verizon locked and I’d rather get it unlocked. Plus it’s still $1,250 for last years phone. Meh.

If I didn’t have AirPod Pros or an Apple Watch, I’d just swap to the new Galaxies in two months but I’m stuck in Apple’s ecosystem.

It really sucks these screens are so terrible. I don’t understand how they dropped the ball so badly with these poor screens. It’s insane. I want to give you money but your subpar product for the price is so disappointing.

All normal on my 12..
It only gets pitch black around 46 seconds in..
Then at 1:15ish, there is only something strange as there are some parts that are not completely off, but slowly disappear and then it’s all deep dark. No flickering
Then you have the raised black problem. Because it has to be pitch black and not only on 46 seconds.

@Limeybastid Yes I love the phone too. Only the raised black and green tin on 0% brightness is fu***ng bad ...

I will say for sure the “yellow tint” is normal this year because every device has this warm screen color. Some more some less.

But the raised black are still a problem which has to be fixed!

I think they releases a phone which is not really 100% ready to go. I think the reason is the Corona Pandemy. There some other problems with this phone. Standby-Drain but this is fixed with beta 14.4 ...

But I think I will wait some time for a fix or not. If it will be not fixed I will sell the phone one year later for good money and get an 13 Pro. If it will be fixed I will keep for another year ...

Can live with True Tone is like night shift. But the other two reasons (raised black, green tint) are very annoying ...

Ah. The warm screen is my biggest issue. That’s why I returned my original 12 Pro Max.

Yes but this is normal.
If you read through whole thread they all have it more or less. They are calibrated this way this year.
You wont get any iPhone 12/12P/12PM with a “blueish” screen color like LCD, Samsung AMOLED or the iPhone X/XS.

If you don’t compare the white screen color next to the devices I said above you can enjoy this nice warm (not yellow) white screen color.

Sounds like a reasonable plan. I’ll do the same.
I think out of all three issues, the green tint is really what I dislike the worst.

Any video with just pure black, I don’t see any light at all coming from the phone at minimum brightness though... it just disappears in the dark..

HI everybody
so as i said previously my last iphone pro max have go back to apple.
I just bought a new iphone 12 pro.

And i must admit that 2 of my issue has gone.

The size factor and the screen resolution.

1. the dimentions of 12 pro max was too big for my hand (i think it was my worst issue, but took me time to understand and accept it).
I admint it was the first time i took a MAX and I did it only because of the little price difference between the 12 pro and the 12 pro max (big mistake).

2.In Theory the resolution is about the same proportionately, but i felt the text and some logo little blurred on 12 pro max. And sure this is because of the screen resolution is not used identicaly.
In fact evrything is bigger on the 12 pro max: text, icons, etc....
And i don't know why but it looks blurred not like a XR for example.
A little like on your monitor when you use the none standard résolution it has been built for.
No issue with the 12 pro standard everyting looks really crisp as on a XR.

other good observations.

3. was not a big issue but i noticed too that uniformity of the panel is really better than on all 12 pro max i had.

4. the green tint due to the panel technology is also really less marked.

5. i tested the videos for the flickering in a black room and no flickering.

What doesn't change (or maybe just different) :

1. the yellow tint. But, as expected from dxomark test, this is not exactly the same yellow.
it is a more yellow tint but with really less intensity. On 12 pro max it was more orange and intense.
As a result, with daylight i can really less notice it. For me this is really better than on iphone 12 pro max.
I really can let it without colour calibration.

But for the night indoor i admit that I come back to the calibration mode.
True that i looks yellow at night ????

Conclusion : for me no doubt it is better than on 12 pro max but still yellow.

what is Worst:

1. the Sound of the speakers seems to be little less good with more saturation ( the Bottom one).
On 12 pro max i was amazed by the quality. Here it's just correct.

2. Photo quality seems to be a little less good too.

3. Untutu test (V8.3.7): (in same conditions, with same storage used, same apps installed, no othe open apps in test) IOS14.3, battery : more than 80%

iphone 12 pro max 256 graphite : 662 932
iphone 12 pro 256 graphite : 673 539

Difference in result is a marginal difference, so no comment on it. But Iphone 12 pro was more warm during test behind the volume buttons.

Remarks :

I really would like to know from where come the theory of the good or bad panels.
G9N, G9P, GVC and GH.
This is really fun as all my iphone 12 pro max was G9N panels and all where worst than this 12 pro G9P panel
in terms of uniformity and color shifting.
So not sur this theory is reliable.

Technical information :

Iphone 12 pro 256 graphite :

production date : week 52 : 12/27/2020
screen production : 12/13/2020 ( note the 2 weeks gap between phone and panels production, so really recent)
model : MGMP3F/A
serie : DNPDX

This is what I see.. not sure if you can see it well on video.
But essentially until 46’ there are some scenes where it’s very dark but you can still see the mountain.. that must be in thr video, thr phone cannot make up the mountains :)
Then at some point it gets pitch black.
No flickering

Then you are very lucky! :)
Which phone do you have?
Which brightness level you watched the video?
Regular 12.
Tried both 0% and something higher 5% or 10%.

The “Only” issues I have with the phone:

- yellow tint (at times - under certain light - more than others). I can probably live with it.

- gap between glass and frame. Although it is hard to see it, knowing it’s there and a sheet of paper fits in some spots and it doesn’t in others is a true killer for OCD.

- the speakers are great with good quality sound, but they crackle a bit with less prime sounds, like when in a call on speaker phone at top volume, while in a FaceTime call when the voice or sound on the other end is a bit extreme, or with some sounds like in this video of a famous pianist:
