Alright I got it to work, putting sim in 2g gets you $20 unlimited data then when you put it back in the iPhone 4 look at my options on my account.

Here is a link to the tutorial I made https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1055442/

This works as of 11/26/10 yay

Choose the unlimited 3G for $30. Cause the AT&T is gonna see you don't have an iPhone 2G and might change your plan to a 2GB or something.

If it hasn't already, it will automatically change to the $30 plan and you'll get a text notification saying you were switched. You don't have to do anything. ;)

I did this about a month ago. My iP4 is chugging along with unlimited data.

Got a 2g iPhone from craigslist for $100. Did the trick.

Um, I would definitely like a tutorial for this. The bandwidth cap is the only thing that keeps me from using data.

Hear that AT&T? YOUR CAP IS COSTING YOU MONEY, NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!

Really? because I'm grandfathered into unlimited data and I'm a fairly heavy data user (FaceTime over 3G for 10-20 min 2-3 days a week, Pandora, stream hour long podcasts [TWiT], then average data sipping internet usage [Safari, RSS, FB, Twitter, etc]) and I'm only at 749MB for the entire month. The only thing I don't do (yet) is internet tethering and that's exactly why at&t added the caps. It's pretty hard to reach the 2GB cap if you aren't tethering.

Lolz, i called AT&T (the spanish line) and asked them if as an exception for been a long time customer they could get me unlimited data on my iPhone 4. The rep asked me to hold on a moment to talk to a supervisor and got back to me with a yes we can do it :D.

Note, this line was open with a new iPhone 4.

Is this 30/mo for one person only?
Does it only work if you have a family plan w/ AT&T?

I ordered an iPhone 4 yesterday (brand new AT&T customer). I already selected the plan and options to go along with the phone. It comes in on Monday.

I have an old iPhone 2G from way back when. If I get a SIM adapter and stick my unused iphone 4's microsim/adapter into the old iPhone 2G and activate it (prior to acyivating iPhone 4), I'm guessing I will have the option to pick a new plan in iTunes regardless of the plan I chose when I ordered the iPhone?

If so, I can take the microsim out of the adapter, stick it in the ip4 and expect a text saying unlimited data is available for $30?

Thanks!!:apple:

can anyone else verifies that this works? I am about to go out and hunt for an old iphone.

Also could I use the microsim adapter and fit it into a windows 7 mobile phone say from t-mobile and have everything working?

Thanks guys!

I did this when I sent my iPhone 4 away for the black to white conversion. I put my SIM in my iPhone, and called AT&T, since they need a manager to approve the addition of the unlimited $20 data plan to my account, and then a week later when I put the microSIM back in my iPhone 4 I got the text that said they'd added a data plan to my account and it's the $30 unlimited plan.

There you go. Thats alot easier:D

what is a good reason to ask for my unlimited back any ideas?

Just be nice and polite and tell them you would like the unlimited plan for peace of mind or something. If they refuse hang up and try calling again and speaking to a different rep. Sometimes it takes a few tries to actually get someone that knows what they're doing and how to do it.

I was able to get unlimited back on my phone as well when I called tonight. Nice lady. I was with AT&T for years, and just left for 3-4 months and came back, but doing so I lost unlimited. So they said they can give it back. :)
