They keep churning these out, I think this is the worst one yet, she has got such an annoying voice, I mean so annoying.

This time though, the laptop is quite good, still runs windows, however under the hood this thing is gonna fly and has good value for money. It is the first laptop M$ has featured that has DDR3 Ram as standard. I also kinda like the design, even though not aluminum, I think it looks better compared to the plastic macbooks, it also has isolated keys.

Did we really need another thread on this, especially when you consider it to be the "worst one yet"?

I guess Microsoft are doing something right because these ads are single handedly buying them a lot of advertising and discussion space on this forum. Very effective.

Anyway, to me this is probably the best one yet. The girl got a computer which can be directly compared to Apple's line, pretty much every component on the inside is the same.

    2.4GHz Core 2 Duo
    4GB DDR3
    GeForce 9400m
    320GB HDD
    13.3" 1280x800 display

From Dell/Best Buy the machine costs $972. For the same specification from Apple it is $1774.

Just noticed something, when she looks at the MACBOOK she says its $2000, then the camera pans to the price label, which clearly states MACBOOK PRO

She would have been comfortably under her budget even if she bought the high end macbook!

The Zune Tatoo guy also generated discussion. Doesn't mean people are going to ditch iPods and go get zzzunes.

    http://www.wired.com/listening_post/2008/07/video-zune-tatt/
Guess what, the guy actually gave up Zune and got an iPod instead.

Same thing with the MS ads here. It's a joke.

Apple's $849 MacBook refurb will run better than that, due to the crapware preinstalled on dells, and the required anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc required for running windows.

Or MacBook alum 2.4ghz refurb at $1300.

Dell's compete with the Whitebook not the Aluminum Macbook which is more directly comparable to Sony.

Well apparently, that Dell competes with the top end Aluminium MacBook, and for a lot less money, too. Good looks as well.

The point is that I think they got the message across well.

However, if they're advertising a PC laptop anyway, and it's a beautiful, marketable one, they may as well show how great it looks too. That way, you're not just saying, "See what a great deal this is?" The machine looks good, and people should be shown this.

    Good looks.

She looks good too. I'd tap that ass, and take photos so that I can remember how good she fooks.

Giving it vista ultimate and a LED screen to match the Aluminum Macbook it come to $1,374.00 vs $1,774.00 for the equally specced Aluminum Macbook. So it will be the full Aluminum case vs Plastic with Aluminum accents, no back lit keyboard vs a back lit keyboard,
    Width: 12.56" (319mm)
    Height: 0.88" (22.55mm) front / 1.35" (34.34mm) back
    Depth: 9.3" (236.12mm)
Weight: Starting weight of 4.85 lbs

    vs

    Height:
    0.95 inch (2.41 cm)
    Width:
    12.78 inches (32.5 cm)
    Depth:
    8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
    Weight:
    4.5 pounds (2.04 kg)2

    And finally
AC power connector vs Magsafe connector.

And then there is telephone vs face to face support, and well throw in iLife.

Is the $400 more for the Macbook worth the better constructed case, 6mm less width, 102mm less height, 0.35 less pounds, a magisafe power adaptor, back lit keyboard. The trade of in favor of the dell is a HMDI port, a VGA port, a unpowered firewire port, and a 8 in 1 card reader.

One thing that struck me, and they didn't mention it in the commercial because then it wouldn't be as effective...but from my best friend's experience in law school some schools are highly mac-unfriendly. My friend ended up going through 4 hp laptops (long story...) and by the end of her law school career bought an iBook, but had to borrow someone's windows laptop to take a final.

Now, this may be less of an issue with Boot Camp, but then you're also looking at the cost of a windows license.

You forgot that Dell also has e-SATA
And for the thinness, unless you are some one really who's really unsecure and your laptop's thinness make you look better and cooler, it is not a deal breaker
Also no need for Vista Ultimate since Vista Home Premium has everything that users need so I dont why you would add that up as a cost

Vista ultimate is included as it is the only version with a the full feature set that includes a Unix terminal and drive encryption. You must put a full OS vs a full OS despite your statement that Home premium has everything users need.
Vista also include faxing, remote desktop, and a rather dubious "Protect against hardware failure.." feature.

Then it comes to the height of the laptop it is very important, i know that it being bigger will mean that it will not fit in my existing laptop bag and sleeve that i payed £120 for. It is nothing to do with coolness we'll leave that to kids, its about the features and yes i seem to have missed out the Esata port with there being so many redundant ports on the thing.

Funny spoof, but if she's going to buy a gun and steal a laptop, why not just hijack a top-of-the-line MBP, instead of some couch potato's worn out pc laptop. But, clearly, it's also spoofing the MS "not cool enough to go Mac" message.

You're really splitting hairs here. First off, does ANYONE buy Vista Ultimate? I use a Vaio TZ with Vista Business, and my mom has a Compaq with Vista Home Premium--I don't see how spending more on Ultimate could possibly make it more comparable to OSX. The value differences are fundamental, like Spotlight implementation vs. Vista's "search".

And no one ****ing cares about .3" of back-edge thickness and .35lbs from a practical standpoint. Maybe nerds comparing e-penises would pay hundreds more for that, but not some chick who wants to save money and get her work done.

For starters, it's pretty intellectually dishonest to point out the $1999 MacBook Pro when they're looking at MacBook stuff.

Aside from that, same old stuff. Take two "people" off the street, run them into a Best Buy, then do the courtesy "let's look at the Macs" thing. All they ever do is look at the price tag, which is pretty dumb for something you're going to use for a few years.

These are just as stupid as comparing a Yugo to a Lexus. "Well the Yugo has 4 tires, four doors and a steering wheel. Why pay more for a Lexus?" It's just as absurd. Granted, I would never spend Lexus prices (the Toyota Avalon is pretty much the same car), but people who own those cars never have a bad thing to say about them.

Five of these commercials and I don't think they've ever used the word "Windows" or "Microsoft" in any ads.
