This doesn't seem very user friendly (from the RC download site):

Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use.

Well it isn't the final version, Microsoft can still tweak a lot of the OS before it's proper release. As a result, the OS will need to be completely reinstalled for stability reasons as opposed to just the 'new' files being installed (like with a service pack). Besides, it's also free software for now, and you get over a year of use out of it.

Microsoft does say on that site that you should not install it on your main computer, after all...

Also they are trying to encourage you to buy the software rather than just using it for free. :)

The current estimations are that the retail versions should be available around November 09.
